TUI said it is considering diverting at least two flights a week from the UK to other destinations, because of the situation.
The building site is situated close to Hotel Rio Park, Aparthotel Flamingo Playa, Apartments Paraiso 10 and Hotel Castilla, where TUI currently has around 1500 guests.
Work on the site apparently contravenes a local by-law which prohibits construction work during July, August and Easter week.
TUI says that around 30 per cent of bookings could be cancelled because the company is obliged to inform holidaymakers of any building work taking place less then 200 metres from their accommodation.
Following a meeting between TUI and Benidorm Town Council, all work on the building site has now been halted until September.
However, anyone staying at those properties from September onwards may wish to take advice from TUI or their travel agent about the scale of works and possible noise disruption during their specific holiday dates.
There are of course numerous other properties in the area which are featured by tour operators other than TUI. Members should take advice from the appropriate tour operator or travel agent.
