Whilt this is a rare event when in a strange environment always find out where your nearest fire exit is and go to the actual fire door so you are familiar with the route. In large hotels the quickest way out is rarely the same way you use to get to your room.
My husband is in Devon Fire & Rescue of which they are trying to get rid of staff, and the hydraulic platform which covers a large area.
As the above incident stated - the nearest platform they could use was in another county of which it took 90 mins to reach the fire, as theirs were out of use.
My thoughts are with those people involved in this terrible incident
It was reassuring, being in Cyprus to note that the hotel's fire safety measures were up to the new EU's recommendations (have just done my fire training for work so am paranoid!!!!!!) but it made us more aware that we needed to check out routes / proceedures etc in all hotels when we arrive in a new hotel ----
A safe Bank Holiday to all
