Hi all,

Been following this thread with interest. I tend to agree with the last comments from del and prawn. We drink wine at nearly every meal (night) while in Turkey and have found it fine. The Doluca range is not too bad at all. I have just checked a wee notepad I keep (sad I know ...) and I note that last year we paid 29.50 ytl for a bottle in the 'Loveboat' in Icmeler. The exchange rate was 2.72 ytl to 1GBP so just a tad over a tenner for a bottle of wine in a restaurant. Fair price in my opinion. Having just looked at my notebook again (yes yes I know very sad  ) I see I got a litre bottle of red in Gima for 6.25ytl, it was called Dikman and was fine too. Anyway back to Marmaris tomorrow (Thurs) so I'll be able to check out this years prices.

Have a good time, Wilson. Don't drink all the wine - leave some for Del!! :D Would hate to think of him going without.

before going thirsty I will tread the grapes myself

This will be no good to most of you but, anyone that likes a sweeter wine try the Ancient Anatolian Civilisations Tatli. My wife loves both the red and the white and always brings a couple of bottles home.

Wilson, hope you are having a great time. So glad you mentioned the Doluca, i couldn't remember the name but did remember enjoying several bottles of dry white wine in Turkey and didn't think it too expensive.

There are a number of good wines here in Turkey. Unfortunately if you are only here for two weeks then you are limited in what is sold and where you go during your holiday.
I can recommend, Yakut , Pamukkale and Dikmen ( all Red ) oH, also Angora.Kavak and Asma are decent whites.
If you want to see if you are paying over the odds in your favourite Bar etc. Check the prices in a Supermarket.
Most Bars etc will reduce the price of the wine if you ask. Despite the Tax the mark up is still more than good.

I can't believe anyone would find Dikmen a decent wine. I wouldn't even use it as a pickling vinegar.

One can only assume that when these people drank these wines they actually liked they were rather enebriated.

generally speaking , I am not inebriated untill after drinking the wine.
There seems to be a fairly even split between those who have found a decent wine and those who haven't.
