Hi,
Me and my fella are off to Zante in 6 weeks and if we like Greece I really fancy Crete next year but have absolutely no idea where on the island is best to stay. We are early 20's and like pubs/bars and nice restaurants rather than clubs and definately don't want to stayanywhere really rowdy (think Malia's quite in your face), but somewhere that there's plenty to do and lots of bars and restaurants. I also fancy seeing all the sights (knossos etc), so any ideas as to which resort would be appreciated!!
Thanks
xx
We seem to like the same type of thing as you, even though we're older. We've decided on Stalis as it seems to tick all our boxes. We're off to Mexico on the 1st Aug then once we come back we'll be booking for next year!
Forgot to ask where are you staying in Zante? We've been there twice - it's fab. All the resorts are super, I'm sure you'll have a great time. Although we like to try out new places - our hearts will always belong to Greece
We are staying in Tsilivi, in the Phoenix Beach Hotel, it looks really nice and I can't wait. Do you know the resort or the hotel?
xx
Sorry, I know its a popular resort, but just passed through there on a motorbike.
chersonisos, stalis, rethymno, chania (the order is by pure luck).
very hot 40-45 every day
erlis was good fresh food nice chap as well !!!
popeyes was bob !!!
very narrow beach but sunbeds were good (boy you needed them !!)
anything you want to know just ask !
Actually wanted to know if the resort will suit what we're looking for-pubs bars etc but not ALL kareoke bars etc, some are ok but not the whole restaurant. Are there good traditional restaurants etc?
xx
Hersonissos is ideal for what you mention. A bus ride to Stalis takes 5 minutes, Heraklion is about an hour and a short trip to Knossos from there on a local bus. Plenty of bars, not tooo much karaoke, and plenty of good tavernas, especially if you go up the hill at the back of the town.
3 brothers is about the loudest .
cant remember what the bar is called but on the way down to popeyes(you will find that at the cross roads)that pub has a disco
but if you really want me to be honest a week would be fine there at night but it did get a bit boring after that !!!
i prefered kardemena in kos
ps
that beach they take pics off(with the wreck) is actually little white stones and kills ya feet when ya get off the boat !!
jeep safari is top bollocks tho
It is a very British orientated resort but there is still some traditional aspects still in place...just. We were actually quite shocked by how unrowdy it actually was, certainly having seen Faliraki close up in the early 00's it isn't a patch on that level.
We actually went to Malia in 1997, so it was ten years ago. It is huge now, certainly compared to then, but I would certainly recommend it to people who like a good nightlife. You can join in as much or as little as you want, and there are always less livelier bars if you want to get away from the hoardes.
Of course your alternative is Stalis, which is a few minutes away and is less lively....
There are some really great restaurants in Malia though. Avoid the British themed places except for the Red Lion, which to be honest is as good pub grub as you will get anywhere.
La Grande Trattoria is a nice Italian, Sirtaki & Napolatana are both great traditional Greek restaurants......the quality of food was much better than I expected, certainly up to other Greek resort standards.
If you need any info on Malia give me a shout. As for alternatives, Stalis I have mentioned, we also drove through Hersonnisos and that looked alright, a bit more built up than Malia though.
Knossos? Not far at all from Malia/Stalis area. We did it in 1997, not this time. It was ok, prepare for serious heat though.
I'm off to Stalis in a months time with my girlfriend. I was worried Malia may be a bit over the top for me(us) hence the reason we booked the quiter resort next door! I fancy spending a night there just for old times sake. I spent a fantastic fortnight there 10 years ago with the lads and want to see how it has changed!
I've been told the best restaurants to visit in Malia are in the old town but have no idea where abouts in the resort this is. Are the restaurants you mention in this area? If not could you give me an idea of where they are. I recall a main street running away from the beach with numerous bars and clubs on either side. As you got further away from the beach it seemed to get a little quiter and there seemed to be more restaurants. Is this still the case?
Sorry for all the questions! Will just make life easier if i know where I'm going.
Cheers, Steve
Rick.
Cheers Rick
