When you get chance take a look around our resort reports as they might give you some insight into the different areas.

We stayed at the following apartments in Cavtat, near Dubrovnic, which I'd recommend:

Also see the post further down "Croatia - package holiday or DIY".

thanks for the replies, I'm having a look right now.

Anyone know of any campsites that rent mobile homes or similar in these areas?

not sure you're gonna find too many campsites in Croatia

Actually there are loads of campsites/holiday camps in Croatia, because it was a popular Communist holiday destination.

Be careful, some of them are naturist ones :yikes

There are several in Porec, which is accessible from Pula airport. We stayed in Rovinj (not camping) and we liked the area. There was a camp we dropped a few merry Russians off at, on a boat trip...here

I'm not able to recommend any of the campsites because I never stayed there, but hopefully it gives you somewhere to look :) Be aware there are no sandy beaches in the north of Croatia, just rocky platforms, but if you read the resort reports as suggested, you will see there are plenty of other things to do, as well as a brisk trade in foam mattresses, lilos and swimming shoes to negotiaite the rocks!

:whoops apologies - never knew that. Guess I went to different places. Personally I'm getting a bit old for camping and prefer a nice comfy bed to colapse on after all that wonderful see food and wine :cheers

Thanks for the suggestions! I've booked flights now for the 19th of june so the search is on for accomodation, I'm having a look at "Camping Bi-Village" near Pula. Looks quite nice, I'll have a closer look though to make sure it isnt a naturist camp! :really

Would you reccomend car hire for the time I'm there or just wait and hire one once I'm there if I think I need it??

Thanks!! :tup

FlyGlobespan do package deals to Pula and Dubrovnik from Edinburgh. We went two years ago and will maybe go back this year. Dubrovnik package deal is Hotel only and quite expensive. Pula offers some self catering options. They also do flights only. Flight time is just over 2 hours from Edinburgh

Booked up to stay at Camping BiVillage for two weeks from the 19th of June! :D

Gotta keep my fingers crossed that I sign off this ship in time now!

Anyone suggest anything that we should go and see while we're there? Anyone know of anywhere to go wakeboarding too?

How's the nightlife in Pula?

Cheers!

woo hoo sounds good :)

it's a bit further south from where we were, but Pula is worth a visit, there is an amphitheatre there. You should aslo be able to go on boat trips to the Brijuni islands.

Deffo go for Brijini Island. Don't go on the tours from Pula though. Go up the coast a little on the bus to the little port where the boats leave for Brijini. Take an early morning one then catch the last boat back. You'll save a fortune. We were told we were sailing from Pula to Brijini, in the end the lovely boat berthed at Pula never left the harbour and we were bussed in a packed, sweltering, exhaust filled wreck of a bus. You could try looking up my review of Punta Verudela and Pula. Good ideas there. The Fish picnic trip to "donkey island " was also very good.
I was there 2006 so check out the reports from around August 2006. Hope you have a great time

Oh yes, we went on a fish picnic up the Lim Fjord from Rovinj. It was a great day out. Do remember to take your swimming things...we didn't and were so hot we resorted to swimming in our pants off the old nudist beach on part of Red Island  having had a good look round to make sure nobody was nearby. We dried off in the sun and went home commando with our pants in a plastic bag....boy was that swim refreshing!!
There was an accordion player on the boat who played lots of pop songs, singing along in the imitable Croatian style of la la la la-la yellow submarine etc.!! On the way home, after several of the travellers had partaken liberally of the free schnapps on board, the sing-song segued into an enthusiastic Russian medley. That's when we sailed to the Villa Rubin campsite and dropped some of them off there...
That, and seeing some camps near Lim Fjord, is how I knew there were campsites in Croatia. :)
