The chances of good weather during the first half of October are very good, but not guaranteed. We have holidayed in the Med, both cruising and also on land, during the Scottish October holiday (begins weekend closest to the 10th) for the past 10 years and never been disappointed. Typically it is low to mid 20's C.

We did the P&O Ventura from 10th t0 24th October past, and the weather was fab. All cruiselines will take in Italy, and if you are looking for 10 nights rather than 7 or 14, Celebrity normally do that from Barcelona or Holland America (Noordam) from Rome. Royal Caribbean and Princess also do 10 or 12 nights at that time of year, some from Southampton. Another good option at that time of year is to go into the Canary Islands sailing from Southampton.

To be honest, our youngest will be 18 this year and "off our hands" holiday-wise. We would choose to go September, rather than October as the weather is potentially warmer then without the excessive mid-summer heat extremes. Also don't be deluded, as many are, into believing that Ocean Village/Island/Thomson etc. are cheaper than some of the better quality lines...they are not, if you choose the right booking outlet!
