Hi
We are doing a Disney cruise next February and had initially decided to get married on board the ship . It will be a small wedding- just myself, partner and 2 children.
However, I'm beginning to have second thoughts...about the venue, not the wedding !!
I've started to look at the possibility of a wedding on Grand Cayman, since this is one of our stops, and one of the few places you can get married 'on the day' so to speak.
Does anyone have ideas for wedding venues on the island, either from experience or knowledge ??
Thanks if you can help.
BTW- you cannot get married at sea- you have to get married at embarkation, or at one of the places you visit.
I will try and follow that up.
Yes, having to technically get married in port first, was one of the reasons I was having second thoughts about the cruise ship wedding ...not very romantic.
You most certainly can get married at sea. My son did 3 years ago onboard the Caribbean Princess ! regards Denny
can get married at sea, yes, but the commonly-held view that ship's captains are automatically entitled to perform weddings is not true.
Generally the only circumstances where a ship's captain can perform a wedding would be where the captain is a person who would be qualified to do so anyway, such as a minister of religion or a licenced marriage celebrant. The right is not ex officio for being a captain.
There is a specific law in Bermuda which recognises any marriage performed at sea on a Bermudan-registered ship by a person licenced to perform them, and so captains of some Bermudan-registered cruise ships have applied for and been granted such a licence. Again though, it's not an automatic right of any captain of a Bermudan-registered ship.

Disney is Bahamas registered. As far as I am aware that still takes a Florida Marriage License.... the legal portion of the wedding is conducted in the terminal before you embark and then you can have a wedding ceremony onboard.
Another thing to consider with an island wedding on a cruise is- what happens if bad weather cancels that port of call? which does happen with Grand Cayman.. I don't want to put a damper on your plans, but you need to consider what if....
