either or is accepted, most shops and bars accept dollars, we took £300 in pesos and £500 in dollars, with the majority of tourists being american the dollar is accepted everywhere.

Yes the dollar is accepted everywhere, however when we were there a fortnight ago we were often given change in pesos. This was a litlle confusing at first as we'd already worked out our change in dollars.
Beware when taking a mixture of pesos and dollar bills. Always double check which you're using as there is a BIG difference in the currency e.g 20pesos= £1 whereas 20 dollars =£10.

Hello

i agree shirley

we took dollars and got pesos back and got used to just adding a 0 on the end to the dollar to make the peso

sounds confusing but you get used to it

just be really careful when getting taxis and stuff as they can try to confuse you.....

there little trick we found was to say they had "no change" once they had done the journey.... hoping you pay more!!

i agree with the comments above.. were taking dollars and i expect a fist full of peso's in return...

i found asking for the price in both dollar and peso best.. less chance of em ripping you off!

Be very wary if you take a mixture of currencies. Myself & 2 friends jumped into a taxi & my OH stuffed some notes into my hand. As we had been using pesos I didn't even look what I had. When the driver said 50 I immediately handed the money over without looking. When hubbie asked for his change later I discovered I'd paid 50 dollars (£25) for a trip that was only 50 pesos (£2.50) The cab driver must have been laughing all the way to the bank. I'm sure that I wasn't the 1st and won't be the last to fall for that!

We've just arrrived home this morning. We took Dollars but it was easy to convert from pesos (when you get change) to dollars, to GBP. From Pesos, halve it get the dollars, the halve again to get GBP! Thats how we worked it out anyway.

Both are fine and very easy to work out its just add a zero like others have said.

The only thing i would say is that i have been told its far better for the workers to tip in pesos as the locals find it much easier shopping at there local markets with pesos as the non touristy markets where the locals shop dont take dollers..
