Just back from a trip round the Cyclades which included Santorini, Naxos, Paros, Antiparos & brief visits to Delos & Mykonos. While on Antiparos I attempted to swim to Despotiko but failed so I cant count that one! We were last in the Cyclades in 1999 and a few things have changed, many more tourists and far fewer Brits. There is now some development at Plaka (Paros) but it blends in and hasn't spoilt it. Naoussa is now so touristy and busy we wouldn't choose to stay there and the price of fish around the old harbour is 75e per kg. This is for A grade fish like Tsipoura (Gilt Head Bream). Generally prices were OK, our meals averaged 30e with house wine. Very much enjoyed Antiparos, quiet in comparison to the others. Away from the only town there are superb beaches reached on dirt tracks easily accessible with care in an ordinary hire car. The sea around these islands is crystal clear so its good for snorkelling or diving and kite surfing is very popular especially around Pounda on Paros. Found a few menus in Greek & French only on Paros, hadn't come across that before in Greece. Brilliant ferry services, the skill shown in reversing these big boats to the dock is fascinating especially when the Meltemi is blowing as it was some days. Paros is the central hub for ferries in this area and our hotel, the Parian Village had great views across the bay to the town. Just dont try to drive through the port when a ferry comes in, its mayhem. Another excellent Greek holiday.
