Maverick, we both know that the Turks are cutting their own throats by charging extortionate prices(water being a prime example). If everybody boycotted the outlets then PERHAPS they might sit up and listen. It is because they feel that they've got a captive audience that they can charge what they like. By lowering to sensible prices, they will sell more stuff because people will be more inclined to use the facilities provided and won't have the need to take their own food.

when i wrote a letter in complaining the answer was great

maverick57uk,

The new terminal cost approximately $150 million to build using private investment. They have to recoup that investment over that stated period, hence the high prices. It's no excuse for charging the sort of prices they do though.

QUESTION RE DUTY FREE PRICES AT DALAMAN.
Turkey is a new destination for us - we've just booked for August. I'm horrified to read the prices mentioned in this thread. Are Duty Free prices as bad?? I had planned to leave our cigs & booze purchases until we arrived at Dalaman - perhaps I'd be better off buying either in UK departure airport or on board Thompson flight. Advice appreciated!! Also, we're into Dalaman late..midnight, will the inbound Duty Free still be open?? And, are departure DF prices the same as arrival? Seems a shame you can't get a burger for less than the price of a 3 course meal in resort - and very short-sighted as a long term revenue generator.

Hi DJK
We flew back from Tunisia in May,we found cigs & tobacco cheaper on
plane than airports.
Example 5 packs 50grams golden virginia Doncaster airport £32
On plane 10 packs 50grams golden virginia £37
So extra 5 packs for a fiver.
Got 400 L/butler cigs on plane for £40,but they have gone up now to around £43.
You can check your flight magazine prices by looking at your flight companies w/site.
Don't forget the aircraft only stocks up in U/K,so if they sell a lot flying from U/K,
they may not have anything coming home. They do not stock up in a foreign country.

djk,

I would also say prices will probably be cheaper on the aircraft. If you click on our What Airraft? guide (link below) and go the bottom of the Thomson Airways section, there's a link to their inflight magazine with current pricing for onboard duty free.

We buy whisky, gin and vodka at Dalaman, there is usually a good offer( buy 2 litre bottles for £16) on for them if you don't mind which brand. Sorry, don't know about anything else, but has got to be cheaper than in the resorts!

In June I bought a 1L bottle of gin cheaper on the Thomson plane cheaper that the 'special promotion' gin at Dalaman airport. Dalaman price their duty free in euros so you have to convert the price as well. To be fair Dalaman do have some machines where you can scan the item and it converts it for you.

Just been reading a experience a couple had at Dalaman airport in June 2011.
They arrived at the airport to find they had a 2 hour delay,so decided to have
a drink & a bite to eat.
Ordered
""""""""""""
1 large beer / 1 meatballs
1 large wine / 1 omelette
Decided to have another drink, 1 large beer / 1 large wine.
Asking for the bill, they got a right shock ----- 152.50T/L ( £61 ) exchange rate 2.50T/L
1 meatballs --------------------------- ---- 18.00T/L
1 Omelette -------------------------------- 09.50T/L
2 Lge beers--- at 17.50T/L each-------- -----35.00T/L
2 Lge wines--- at 45.00T/L each------------- 90.00T/L
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" """""""""""""
............................................Total.....---- 152.50T/ :cry
What a rip off 45T/L for a large glass of wine £18 a glass.
This was in the Allsports Pub bar, after complaining to the manager of the bar, they had to
pay, otherwise the manager was sending for security.
When they got home they wrote a letter to the Dalaman airport authority, but never heard
anything back. :que

Obviously Alizda has not been at the airport in the middle of the night with 2 or 3 children desperate for a drink and herself too exhausted after a long transfer to think straight or she would be a tad less holier than thou.

Its very expensive. We took things to eat with us but my son had some money left and it was burning a hole in his pocket, so off to McDonalds he went where 1 Burger and 1 can of Iced Tea = £10.

Mind our Onur Air flights weren't much cheaper. 2 cans coke, 1 cherry juice, 1 coffee, 1 twix = £14.50

Daylight robbery! :(

Welshwanderer - I do not consider myself holier than though just more informed as having travelled through dalaman 8 times at all times of the day and also with children

I was purely stating my personal opinion of which everyone is entitled to x

Alizda - We have been going through Dalaman twice a year for the past ten years, so maybe my great age brings a more empathetic outlook and a desire not to enter into wrangles - you are perfectly entitled to your own opinion.

Hi. There are lots of posts here about problems with weighing baggage at Dalaman.

We're flying with EasyJet and their website states for hand luggage "No weight restriction applies within reasonable limits — i.e. a you must be able to place the piece of luggage safely in the overhead storage bins without assistance." It also gives some maximum measurements.

Presumably this policy also applies at Dalaman so if my item of hand luggage weighs (say) 7KG but meets the other criteria we still won't get charged?
Reply
Random Number,

Baggage limits aren't set by the airport, they are set by the airline. Easyjets policy is standard across their route network so is no different via Dalaman. As long as it's within the size limits and you can physically lift it in to the overhead storage, it's fine.
