Datca is a lovely place.... still very Turkish as a lot of Turks have their holiday homes there. Just outside of Datca there are miles of peaceful beaches, truly relaxing. The only hassle is the long transfer to get there, it's a good hour and a half from marmaris. try this website http://www.datca.com it seems to be a bit "busy" in design but has a lot of info.

Thanks will have a look on the website. Jacqui

Hi Jacqui

If you are thinking about DIY how about flying to bodrum and then the ferry to Datca HERE and HERE

it might not be feasible but it is a different transfer from airport to resort.

Just thought it might give you a different idea.

Basil.

the ferry is a bit of a risk if your times don't coincide, it does make a great day out though.

I was a memeber of anther forum for Datca but have lost the link I know one of the ladies that owned property in Datca was a member both there and on here but I ca't remember her name I would love to know the link again if this sounds familier. I still fancy visiting both Datca and hisaronu. Maybe next year I can persuademy dh that there is more to Turkey than Akyaka

Hi all :D ,
After busy days and nights in the resorts - Datca is paradise! - a bit of a hike on the bus but well worth it - the views as you travel over the hills and look down at the deserted beaches and blue blue sea are spectacular.

Off to Cyprus in March but will return to Datca some day

PS tried Sharm in October - not a patch on Turkey - IMO.

Toffeemen can you tell me which is the best way to book holiday to datca either diy or through tour operator? Can you recommend any accomodation? Thanks for your help. Jacqui

Hi Jaqui
Datca is a fabulous place I have a house there and visit often. It depends on your budget as to what you will book there. There are no big package tours although Simply Turkey go there also Sunsail. There are places to suit all budgets.
I don't rent out my house but know several who do. If I'm allowed to I can recommend hotels. I can also recommend a transfer company- reliable and legal. It would probably be cheaper to do this as an independent traveller. Get a flight to Dalaman. Transfer takes around 2 and a half hours (well worth it) and some of it goes through dramatic mountain scenery. Cost of transfer around £70 - £80 each way per minibus not per person.
I can't rate this place highly enough and I am pretty well travelled worldwide. It's stunningly beautiful and not that busy. Water and air quality is rated as third best in the world. There are loads of empty beaches. Knidos is a fantastic place to visit from there. The little harbour buzzes a bit at night, there's a good Saturday market, plenty of nice restaurants and enough shops to keep me busy. I don't recommend going via Bodrum and the ferry, as the ferries only go twice a day in high season, less in low season and can be cancelled if weather is bad. It means you have to hang around waiting for it to go and it's a 2 hour crossing. Much easier to jump in a transfer car or mini bus at Dalaman, often the trip takes less than the 2 and a half hours quoted.
Maybe the mods will say if i can recommend anywhere to you or perhaps I'm allowed to by pm. Have a wonderful time there.

You can make recommendations of hotels and transfer companies etc openly (just as long as its not your own business) I have done it myself re akyakaand turnunc.
I am sure briar (mod) will confirm. I would also be interested in somewhere to book for a couple of nights

It depends what you want fionay - cheap and cheerful, extreme luxury or somewhere in between. A pool, by the beach or inland, near the town or out of town. There are places to suit all pockets. I or friends have stayed in a few. Google hotels Datca and you will come up with a lot, I'm happy to give you my opinion on anything you find.

Datca looks great, we are off to Dalyan June and again in Sep, we will definatly take a trip to Datca to stay for a week or so, it looks like you pass through Turunc or nearby.
We would also be interested in reasonable accomadation near the beach and town dont mind a pansyon as will be in Turkey for a few months so on a budget.

Ooh looks like Datca will be busy next year! You pass Marmaris and then head up into mountains. You also carry on past turnings for Turunc but you don't really go near it or even see it. You can get fairly regular buses from Marmaris to Datca.
OK mods please remove this if it's not allowed. I am not related to or have any business dealings with the following.
While house hunting we stayed at the Uslu Hotel several times, it has apartments and rooms, a nice pool and is by the beach and 5-10 mins walk to the town and harbour. It is clean and comfortable but not luxurious but the position is perfect. Owner and some staff speak English and they are very helpful. Brother of owner does reliable transfers.
Marphe hotel has apartments and I think studios. Beautiful pool and gardens but a bit out of town and away from a beach, you may need to use buses or taxis or car hire. Very tasteful place and nice furnishings. I have had lunch there and visited friends who stay there.
Lots of budget pensions around the town but they don't have pools. You could just turn up without a reservation and find something cheap.
Club Datca is near my house. Recently restored with nice gardens, pool and right next to the beach. About 15 mins walk to town along a coastal footpath. It has loads of rooms set in gardens and a bar etc.
Mare hotel looks nice and again next to the sea with a pool, have only ever had a drink there and swum in the pool. Owner was friendly and spoke English. Again about 15 min walk to town.
Extreme luxury with a price tag to match is the Ali Aga konak hotel. Out of town in a village, but a very beautiful restored Ottoman building. Have had coffee there and could have moved into the loo!!! Beautiful!!
Further down the peninsula is Ogun's place. Nice cheap, simple village type acommodation with a very jolly host. This is my favourite restaurant, the food is yummy. It's quite a bit out of Datca but by a beach and great if you really want to get away from it all. A few buses run into Datca daily.
Triopia is one of those out of the way places up in the mountains and I'd have to have a car if I stayed there but it is really beautiful, lovely design and gorgeous furnishings. Often stop there on my way to Knidos and have coffee. I'm told by friends the food is great. Nice friendly people who gave me the grand tour of the place. Prices were ok and I'm tempted to have a couple of nights there myself one day.
OK I hope I haven't broken any rules doing that and apologies to all those lovely hoteliers that I have left out but I've just mentioned the ones that I have been to. All of them have web sites so look them up for prices and photos. Bear in mind that Datca is quite an expensive place compared to other resorts. Wealthy Turks tend to holiday there and that with the remoteness of the place and I suppose extra effort needed to get supplies there pushes the prices up a bit. Worth every penny though.

Oh forgot to mention, if you are doing a tour you could then catch the ferry to Bodrum, takes 2 hours and goes at 9am and 5 pm daily in high season less often the rest of the year. It takes cars and foot passengers and docks right in Bodrum.

We rented and stayed in a private villa for 2 weeks in Hisaronu village. Villa Guller. It was a superb place to have a base to explore from. Fantastic pool and grounds. We could laze around the pool and also explore lots of the local villages. We rented a car and travelled around quite a bit. We visited Datca and explored all along the coast. Knidos is brilliant - an old Roman port town - with some interesting ruins. The scenery is stunning. The Datca penninsula is breathtaking as is the Bozburun Penninsula. The phrase 'Real Turkey' is over worked but these areas really are.
The locals are friendly and hospitable and the rural restaurants are really good value for money. It is so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the manic 'tourist traps'.
We really love this 'Hidden Turkey' and we'll holiday this way every time now, a private villa, a hire car and a wonderful set of memories - no more package trips!!. Can't be beaten. :D

I could't agree more, we stopped the package trips many years ago and find doing our own thing much better, can't wait to get down to the datca are now.

We get a day in Datca next May when we go on a gulet holiday. I've heard good reports if what you want is something a bit more "Turkish". I've seen all I want to see of Marmaris and prefer to visit the places where the Turks go.
Reply
I shall be there during May. It's one of the nicest months. Weather often perfect - not too hot not too cold. The harbour where I assume you will tie up for the night is lovely with plenty of good restaurants to choose from, and a few shops to browse in. Enjoy yourselves.
