Some countries do charge you to leave - though there must be a few regulars on here they'd be glad to get rid of.

Anyway, it doesn't sound like too hefty a charge - at least not if this US travel site is accurate - $190 each for our trans-Atlantic cousins to go home. :!:

After Dor Dor's question regarding departure tax, I had a good look around and also Googled it. There is absolutely no mention of a new departure tax from the 1st Jan, anywhere. With it's rumoured introduction being so close, you'd think someone would be mentioning it.

It does appear that there is actually a departure tax currently in operation but this seems to be universally included in the price of the air ticket or your package holiday price.

:hmmm

I too was under the impression that the departure tax had already been introduced quite some time ago but must be included in the ticket price.

I agree with the Orange Tetra Stick... smells like a new rip off being conjured up ... and not over here.

Hey I don't mind a departure tax if it means I have to stay in Sharm etc if I refuse to pay

Ah... you dont think the scammers had nt thought of that ? They will insist on you paying it when you arrive !

But that would be an arrivals tax

No... the arrivals tax is payable upon departure from your point of origin... logic eh ?

I quote word for word from the letter I received from Cosmos-----------

IMPORTANT HOLIDAY INFORMATION

RE: Manchester- Sharm on 11FEB 07

VISA rubbish----trying to make you get a visa even if you're not going out of Sinai----They say it's necessary for every excursion you make [Thats not word for word  ]

But this is the bit about departure tax-----------A NEW DEPARTURE TAX COMES INTO FORCE FROM 1ST jAN 2007.THE ESTIMATED COST IS BETWEEN £4-£10 STERLING.THE CONFIRMED COST WILL BE ADVISED LOCALLY.

What is everyones opinion??????

I thought all taxes were included in the price :?

We have not had anything in fro First Choice. Sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one

Just got back from Luxor. No departure tax there either...

Well, it would seem that only Cosmos and Archers, who are both part of the same group, are the only TO contemplating this "new" departure tax from Egypt. I suggest that anyone being informed of this charge by them should ask why it appears to be solely applicable to Cosmos and Archers holidays.

Are these taxes referring to the increaesed taxes imposed at UK airports as announced today in the budget ?

If so... how did they know in advance ?

I have just rang TC and they said they do not know anything about the tax for Egypt, but their fares have gone up for short haul and long haul by the Mr browns disclosure the other day, re the budget. Anyone that has paid for their hols already, will not impose this tax for the UK. In other words, the price you pay for your holiday stays the same.
