I have noticed this a few times in the forums also, As your husband comes from Turkey wouldnt it be easier to get one of his relation's to transfer the money for you from Turkey?

I did think that maybe the best thing to do was for us to send the money to someone who could then go and pay it in for us but I was hoping to not have to bother someone else.

Well if it was me I definately wouldnt do it, I would try and use an online payment method, Paypal, Moneybookers, At least that way if you dont get your accomadation you will get your money back,

I have a Paypal account, am I able to pay money to a bank account using that then?
Reply
No, Just to your own bank account, The person your paying it to must have a paypal account also, Some Turkish companies do this.

Thanks for your help, I will ask them if there is some other way I can pay then.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I told the hotel it was too much to pay, so they just said to forget the deposit and told me to pay when we arrived. Can't blame them for asking tho, i bet they get a lot of no show's each year.

Maybe we will try that then. We stayed there before and didn't pay a deposit last time.

Our hotel has done this for the last two years purely because of no shows, plus they are worried that the credit crisis may cause people to cancel with job losses etc. Lloyds TSB charge £20 for a international transfer.

just a tip..if you are based in London ..there is a branch of Turkiye Is Bank ( Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş. ) there and they do international transfers for 10 GBP..or at least this is what I was told. Might be worth looking into.

also I am a bit surprized however that you as a returning guest would be asked to pay a deposit..for a new reservation I can understand however for returning guests not a usual practice..

also have you asked them if you can fax your credit card info to hold the deposit ?? many hotels have alternative methods to pay deposits..

My husband is going to phone them today so hopefully he will manage to sort it out ;)
