Hi Dizzy, I am going out for first time to Bulgaria and Sunny Beach myself on 19th. Reading yor email I wondered whay pills I should take for dicky tummy etc. Can you or anyone advise on that. Also on rehydrating, is there a pill type for that over the counter? Just thought I would get prepared like you. Thanks Stuart

Me and my partner were in Sunny Beach for 7 days in July and did suffer from a diccy stomach. We had it from the 2-3 day all the way through until a few days after coming back. To this day we dont know what it was. We were drinking bottled water so couldnt have been the water. Unless it was the food or cocktails we were drinking at the night time.

Luckily we got a few dyrolite(dont know how you spell it) tabs from superdrug and taken them everytime we went out and when we came back on the plane.

Thanks Dave, Oh blimey it must have been dreadful. Would the ice cubes and salads be with their high mineral water? Therefore passing it on to us that way? Stuart

Went to Sunny Beach in June with Wife and 2 boys (15mths and 4yrs), stayed 2 weeks ,ate and drank most things, no reactions whatsoever even from the kids! I wouldnt worry too much about it unless you are prone to upsets when you are abroad. Just take basic precautions(water, well cooked food etc) Enjoy.

Hi Stuart and Dave
Just read your reports on dicky tummies. It must have been awful for you Dave. The best thing to do if you do get ill, is to drink plenty of water and rehydration therapy sachets. You can buy these from the chemist here before you go. (The best flavours are citrus) Please don't use anything like arret or imodium as this will just stop yu having the 'runs' and if ther4e is and infection or poison, it will not pass. It happened to me in Turkey and I was really ill. I am going to make sure I only dronk bottled water and make sure that all the food I eat is properly cooked. Having said all this I am still really looking forward to my hols. Hey Stuart are you flying from Manchester? If so what time? Maybe me and my husband can meet up for a drink? Ah well here's to no more dicky tummies!! :glynis Take care. Love Dizz xx

we have just got back and both had dicky tummies and i have an iron gut ? immodium and rehydrate is what you need

I also had an upset tum on holiday, but used immodium( Superdrugs own version as cheeper) and felt much better. I think its prob due to drinking more (usually tea total at home) and eating foods your tummy is not used too rater than any food poison :yuck
Having said that, im always careful on holiday, checking food is hot and cooked through and if I chose salad at the hotel, I always took from underneath the dish, as its kept cooler and no flies have been on it. and I avoided street food etc. Thats all you can do, have a great holiday. :D

Hey pjdraper!
So sorry to hear that you were ill on holiday. Where were you staying? It really can spoil your holiday when something like that happens. Hope it didn't spoil it too much. Anyway, my suticase will be packed with re hydration therapy and i am definitely NOT taking arret or immodium with me, no matter how many times i have to 'run' to the loo! I ended up in hospital in Turkey because i took immodium. The doc tor said that I had stopped the 'badness' passing and i lost lots of fluid through sweat because of the pain. I was put on a drip for nearly a whole day! I just hope that I am fine on hols. 8 days to go!!!!! Yippee!!! Love to all Dizz xx

We have just returned from Albena. We went to the water park at golden sands on the tuesday by the early hours of wednesday morning there was 5 out of 10 of us that was ill. Then towards the end of our holiday another person fell ill. We was all careful what we ate. The chemist at Albena is very good and helpful.

Having been to Bulgaria three times none of my family has ever had any stomach problems!! I can't say that anyone we met in Bulgaria did either.

Hasn't anyone had stomach problems in other european countries???
I know we have in the canaries.
