Like every other person this year I am looking for the best value that I can in a holiday and that means trying to go somewhere that isn't in the euro. I have been to Turkey before about 4 years ago. We went to Olu Deniz and had a fantasic 2 weeks.
We are trying to find somewhere equally as lovely this year and have been recommended Kalkan by a friend who we made while on holiday in Olu Deniz who owned a shop there.
Bascially I have been looking at booking a villa and the flights seperately, as there are some lovely villas available. But I would like to know what other recommend. Is it easy to get flights from the Manchester/Liverpool area? How far is the transfer? How much would it cost? Would it be more sensible to try and get a package?
I just would like some recommendations really...my boyfriend and I are in our early 30's and like somewhere fairly quiet with some nice places to eat in the evening. A nice beach...oh and as cheap as possible
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
There are lots of villas, but beware- Kalkan is a very hilly resort so you need to pick your villa location carefully. Many villas are situated well above the village, and you would need taxis every night to get back up. It is possible to walk from these villas to the village, but it is a fair trek and the road is pretty dodgy- in terms of having to walk on the road itself (no pavement until to get close to the village). I only went down the hill once when I stayed there - the rest of the time we took taxis. Villa owners can be economical with the truth when describing their villa's location!
Lots of lovely restaurants and bars, but it is not particularly cheap. Imported drink especially is very expensive, so we tended to eat int he village in the evening, go for a walk and then have a drink back at the villa,
Our villa was quite expensive for a week in September last year(but it was very high quality) and I would be surprised if any holiday to Kalkan was particularly cheap overall - the transfer from the airport since we were DIY was quite steep - it is a long way.
Howver, the journey is worth it- this is one of the best places I have ever been too and I would love to go back. It is an incredibly laid back and relaxing place - just wonderful.

Hi all. Thinking about this year's holiday . We absolutely love Greece but had a bad experience in Lefkas last year what with the euro and other things. Don't really fancy Turkey but my cousin says I would love Kalkan. Has anyone got any info on apartments, distance from airport to resort etc? Our son will be 15 so hopefully it will not be too quiet? Thanks in advance.
If you scroll back through to June 24th, 2009 you will find the Discussion on Kalkan Topic. Also look at website Enjoy Kalkan. Kalkan is about 1hr 30mins from Dalaman Airport. If you feel that Kalkan is not for you then consider Olu Deniz, Hisaronu/Ovacik or Icmeler.
Hi Les. Thank you. I'll take a look.
We love Kalkan and will be back there in June but I am not sure it is a place for a 15 year old, Nightlife is mostly centred around the restaurants which could be too quiet for a teenager. this my opinion but I did notice we had a young girl in our hotel last year and she was bored at night, daytime is fine as you can swim in the sea from the beach clubs etc. Kalkan is ideal for couples though.
Olu Deniz or Icmeler might be a better option, As I have never been to Greece I cannot really compare the two countries,
Then I have never fancied Greece!
Have a look on the resorts section and you will get an idea on what may suit you all
There is a site for Kalkan called EnjoyKalkan.com which may interest you.
