I think the port you would have docked in is called Vasco De Gama,and the nearest beach to it is as you say - Bogmalo Beach.

Yeah thats the port... I knew it had gama in it somewhere! I would love to go back but my partner doesn't like flying so we haven't managed to get past Spain over the last 5 years!! :-(

I was very lucky to get the trip I did, I joined the Navy at 16 1/2 and got my first deployment at 17 1/2 which was a round the world trip called Ocean Wave 97.. We went from Gib to the south of France then to Egypt.. then on to Abu Dhabi, Oman then to Goa for 2 days partying before we did a 2 week none stop exercise (Hardly any sleep) after Goa we went on to Singapore where I had 2 weeks leave and my parents came out and met me for a hol. Then we went to Korea, Philippines, Japan and finally before we made our way home we docked in Fremantle Oz the day before my 18th birthday! On our way home we stopped at a little island called Diego Garcia (DG as your daughter might know it - Its a forces island) which is the most beautiful place I have ever been (Proper Indian Ocean Island - White sand clear blue sea) Then we sail towards home and popped into Malta for a few days rest before sailing back into Pompy to meet our family. We were away for 8 months! I beleive depolyments arn't that long these days?

Hi Kellea. My daughter joined at 16.1/2 and has now been in 5 years. Was 'lucky' enough to be on Ark Royal and out in the Gulf 3 years ago. She has a war medal! Now on another ship. She is supposedly going east this summer. I could fly out too like your parents did! I so want to go back to Goa. We have just got back from Mexico. Best regards.
