The 125 shouldn't be really busy and it is a bit less milleage trough that way.
As a resident I can back that up, but I would go 125 - 395, as the 526 is a narrower more winding road, and may be a little trickier in the dark if you are not familiar with it.
Its the N125 for me every time, straight, quick and never been anywhere near busy when I've driven it. Would only venture off this road if you want to sightsee and are in no rush.

Yep N125 we always take to Olhos d Agua, this is just a few miles short of Albufeira. Usually takes just over half an hour.

Every thing went fine, apart from me taking the first road off the 125 signposted Albufeira.Took the 1287 which took me via Olhos de Agua.
On returning to the airport drove back via the 526.I saw where I went wrong then.
