Thank you all for your replies. We are not staying in an hotel but in a private apartment complex, so free hotel buses will not come in to play. I think it will be down to taxi's for this trip.
As for 40-45c, I was led to believe that the temp in May was around 35c max! Looks like we will be enjoying the air conditioned shopping malls more than anticipated.

I think 45C is a bit optimistic for May, even in Dubai!
Another one you might want to consider is the 'Wonderbus' - a bizarre attraction that departs from Burjuman Mall. It's an amphibious bus that takes you on a tour of Dubai and then drives into the creek for a cruise!

They seem to take most currencies.I used sterling but american dollars were popular and they even took australian dollars.

We are off to Seychelles/Abu Dhabi in 4 weeks via Dubai. On our itinerary it states that we have "meet and greet" included at Dubai airport.(and Seychelles). Can anyone tell me what that actually entails. We are getting a connecting flight from Dubai onto Seychelles, then on the return journey we stop off at Dubai and journey up to Abu Dhabi. As far as I am aware, the "meet and greet" is at both Dubai and Seychelles. Thanks.

Hi we did Seychelles and Dubai last year :D .

Meet and greet in the Seychelles is once you're through arrivals, passport control and baggage reclaim. We were met by Masons Travel and given cool flannels, before being escorted to the minibus (they carried the bags to the bus for us).

In Dubai (probably because the airport is so big) there was someone waiting to meet us as we went downstairs towards baggage reclaim/passport control. He explained everything and took us to passport control, met us the other side and we did not lift a finger, just had to point to our bags and the chap picked them from the conveyor, loaded up the trolley and wheeled it out to our waiting transport - service or what?! :D

3) Things to do with kids aged 2 and 4

4) whats the weather like this time of year

5) Any other useful info

Thanks

Only flown with Gulf and Etihad and thought Etihad was much better, but thought Abu Dhabi airport was very much a poor relation compared to Dubai and it's duty free was much poorer than the likes of Dubai or Bahrain Hope this helps Alan

I flew out with Emirates at the end of January and stayed at the Habtoor.

Emirates is good - the airport was almost empty and we got through passport control quickly and our luggage was waiting for us on the carousel.

The Habtoor is a good hotel. However there is a lot of work nearby and from the beach, the main view if you look towards Jebel Ali end is cranes. Not particularly noisy though. The most difficult bit was navigating from the main road to the hotel - because of all the work going on, it seemed to take ages. This was January and things move fast in Dubai so it might have changed.

The hotel itself has just undergone refurbishment, the shops on the ground floor weren't open then, but about to. The food was fabulous - breakfast was never-ending food, it seemed. Gorgeous juice, fruit, pastries, hot food - well worth paying for breakfast if you are room only basis - sets you up for the day.

Rooms were comfortable, although the shower did flood the whole bathroom each time but it was family size! Balconies are small if you have one.

The pool has a special kids section with slides. Otherwise not much in the hotel for children. Go to the Water Park near the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The beaches at Jumeirah are sandy and safe. Roped off areas for swimmers but there are lots of jet-skis etc outside so can be a bit noisy at times. I saw camels on the beach for rides, but not all the time. The hotel doesn't provide entertainment, apart from a bar on the lower ground floor. Good spa and fitness areas, tennis courts.

For entertainment outside the hotel, do a desert safari - if the children like bouncing up and down over the dunes! Go the the mall of the Emirates and ski. Good places to eat there as well (e.g. TGI Fridays!)

We usually go to the Red Sea as I get bored sunbathing so spend hours in the sea snorkelling. We are going to Dubai this year, does anyone know if it's worth taking a snorkel or booking any boat trips?

Many thanks

About 90 mins drive from Dubai take you to the east coast of the UAE, a place called Fujeira, head for snoopy island, you can swim to it off the beach, the snorkelling there is fantastic.

Have a good hol

Hi,

I have a 3 hour stopover in Dubai on my way to Bangkok in a couple of months.

Does anyone know if I could use Euro coins in any of the bars, cafes or restuarants or would I need local currency?

I have about 30 Euros left over from previous holidays and this would be the ideal way to get rid of them.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hi
As far as i remember they will take euros or sterling (possibly other currencies too) though i'm not sure if they accept coins as we only had notes. The only problem is your change will be given in dirhams which are not alot of use if you're not visiting Dubai.
That said you will probably spend 30e pretty easily - there's your usual perfumes, drink, etc at duty free and if you like your music cds are much cheaper than here in the uk (i got Shakira's new album nearly £5 cheaper than here and a month before the uk release!).
