HI Folks
Just a little warning we have just come back from new year in Sofia and at the airport although we had some duty free alcohol, in the case ,as normal I was also carrying a bag with some more (stolincnaya vodka,Todoroff rakia, and a good bottleof wine) on departing through the new terminal 2 at the airport when going through scanner at departure I was told to leave the drink there as it is not allowed through and must be disposed of by security staff. Not being very happy about this I decided to instead donate the bottles to two very friendly police officers, who were downstairs in the airport, this seemed to upset the security staff who seemed to have also collected some other unfortunate persons drink.(maybe the party was not going to be as good as they planned) so please take note make sure it is in your case and not visible.
Did you buy the drink in the airports duty free? As this should have been allowed through. However if you arrived at the airport carrying any drinks then they will be taken from you due to the new rules.
I see your point about the drinks, however it would have been impossible to buy anything at the duty free in the new terminal as although the terminal has an extensive new selection of duty free shops for some obscure reason every one of them was closed even though it was only 4.30 in the afternoon ,also the new terminal building appears to be the only one which does not have a smoking area of any description, until a Bulgarian national on her way back to London kicked up a stink.
Same no smoking rule was applied to us recently in Krakow airport - tiny little thing with nothing really once through security apart from vending machines. Best of luck to anyone with a long delay stuck there.
