We have been going to Candolim for 8 years and tried Stonehouse the other day for the first time. Music was excellent but I can honestly say it was the worst meal I have ever had in Goa. Maybe what I ordered which was the beef stroganoff but it was inedible (very tough meat) and my husband said his curry was pretty mediocre too. Given the choice we eat in Rising Waves more than anywhere else and we find the food consistently excellent and good value for what it is. Samir (Sammy) the owner told us that he served 120 people two nights ago which, I think, says it all as it holds 80 people for one sitting. But I accept it is "horses for courses"!

My favourites (all in Candolim) are

1. Rising Waves
2. Jazz Corner when there is decent live entertainment on (not karaoke!) as their food is always excellent, whether you have Indian, Chinese or "international"
3. Annapurna for curry but menu is a bit restricted now
4. Mango as they do a mean seafood pasta which sounds boring but the sauce is made with blue cheese and absolutely delicious.

We love curry but as we are here for 4 months eating curry every night is not an option, hence the love of something alternative.

I am just back from Xmas and New Year in Goa and I really enjoyed Fire and Ice on the CSM road in Baga, it was fantastic for Indian dishes and also steaks, the staff were great and prices reasonable.

Went in in November with high expectations. Sat down and got a menu only for the tables either side of us to both start smoking.

Walked out without ordering. Thought there was a smoking ban on but at the very least would have expected less ignorance from fellow diners.

One table were Russian so you could accept the cultural ignorance the other Brits who should have known better.

Will not go again unless this changes.

Regulars will know how close the tables are anyway so it really was not on.

Would add this was one of our favourite places.

been to Soumyens and Jamies in the last few days and as much as I like Soumyens we both thought the steak was better at Jamies

Jamie's steaks are outstanding. When I asked for mine "blue" the waiter enquired if I preferred "black and blue". As I was only having a fillet steak and not the whole fillet I doubted it was possible without overcooking it. It was perfection.. totally uncooked in the middle, only very well done on the very outside. Mmmmmmm ! I'm hungry !!

Have to agree, Jamies is outstanding, have been going there for many years even when it was on Baga Rd opposite Kim Fa and never had a bad meal, highly recommended

Shame I missed Jamie's this time, it sounds lovely, will make sure I visit on my next trip

:whoops just posted this on old thread!!
any recommendations for good chinese restaurants on the candolim calangute stretch please?? My Mum loves chinese but doesnt eat Indian and we havent really ate at many chinese here as we are just so so with chinese food..I know most restaurants have chinese on the menu but would prefer an all chinese restaurant. Baga is just a nightmare to park so candolim would be much easier for us

papa,

brittos is one of the last shacks you come to at baga point (left hand fork and not over the bridge). it is well decked out in union flags and has access from the road. will be visiting jamies myself this weekend for the first time so i hope i am referring to the correct brittos!

:cheers
