Tax
Hi All,

I've been reading your messages re: "The new tax" and was wandering if it is for people who have booked flight only or is it for everyone who has booked a package holiday also. We are due to fly to CSR - Sharm in May and haven't heard anything from FC as yet regarding extra charges?

Please help

It'll be just for flight only bookings.

Abta says that the vast majority of holidaymakers on a package deal will not be affected.
This is because when an agency makes any surcharge it is obliged to absorb up to 2%.

Depends when you booked the package (ie was the new tax already in effect and so should be included in the price) and whether the package company decide to absorb the extra tax on earlier bookings.

Thanks Everest. I booked my package nearly a year ago, so fingers crossed I'll get away with it.

Hi everyone
Just been reading the posts regarding long/short haul, how about this then.
We go to sharm next week from Manchester, booked with Jetline flying with JMC got the tickets last week from thomas cook that says short haul flight so we only get 15kgs of luggage each, now for two weeks this is just abiysmal never known this before, but wait for an extra £100 we can have an extra 5Kgs each so of course we have had to cough up, mmmmm, and to cap it all the long range weather forecast is seeing the temps drop to 22c tell me this is not so.

Pete . when i priced for flights recently on the http://www.flythomascook.co.uk website i noticed this a s well at the end you have an option of 15kg with nothing to pay extra or 20kg at an extra cost :( :( .

so if thomas cook are classing sharm short haul why are XL not ??

I don't think there is a strict classification of short/long haul. If a charter airline chooses to call a route 'short haul' they'll put on a plane with tighter seat pitch and cram on a few more passengers (with less baggage each). xL, incidentally claim to have the best seat pitch of any charter airline.

The departure tax on the other hand depends whether or not you are flying to someplace outside Europe - rather than if it's a short or long haul flight.

Hi Guys
I was making light of our impending trip ie the 15Kgs, you can't win with airlines/holiday companies, they give you something in one hand and you think thats great then they take it back with the other because they know you will pay, still never mind only five days to go.

she told me Cairo was the shortest long haul

We were told the same but different. Sharm was the longest short haul (First Choice). That was 2005 though, seems things may have changed re air passenger duty.
