Money appears to be the key factor in obtaining satisfactory medical care, whether you are a Bulgarian national or a foreign tourist.
Make sure that you have adequate medical insurance cover as the majority of health services are privatised.
I spoke to an acquaintance today, who suffered major injuries in a road traffic accident in Bulgaria last year - he has been billed 20,000 Leva for the initial emergency hospitalisation & treatment, subsequent operations have brought (and will bring) much higher charges. His Bulgarian car insurance company have, allegedly, failed to settle any of these bills.
