Last august I was comparing prices on archos media players when I was in tenerife, I found prices were very similar to the uk and remember its a long way to go back if it breaks down! Keep looking on the internet uk web sites and you might get a better deal, electrical goods drop in price very quickly when a new model comes out, dixons at the airports are usually good prices.

Yes the AV 500 is available in many shops in Tenerife. Visanta (Parque Santiago, Torviscas and LC) sell them. I have one and have never looked back. However; although I live in Tenerife I bought mine from QVC of all places.

QVC run deals every few months on the Archos. They give a far better deal than any shops Ive seen both here and in the UK. Archos beef up the capacity for QVC and give extra stuff away with it. I got a 100Gb hard drive (standard is 30Gb), a spare battery and a carry case as well as an extra docking pod (essential if you wish to view easily on two TV locations in your home).

Like most new technology Prices in Tenerife for the Archos AV500 are a little higher than in the UK and you will get only the 30Gb hard disk, one battery and one pod.

The other cheapest way to buy is direct from the Archos web site, but my advice is to ring QVC and ask when they will be doing the 500 again. Interestingly for us Tenerife Ex-pats. QVC are one of the few UK companies that will ship here.

Finally: I fully expect the 500 price to fall across the board as Archos wind down its production in favour of the 700 which has a larger built in screen. It will continue to be made as many Police authorities across Europe like its smaller size (than the 700) and use them attached to a helmet camera.

@Toon Coyote: Try getting a discounted Archos in Dixons (high street, not duty free) for the advertised price. They usually say oh that one is out of stock, we have one with a bigger hard drive at £XXX, which is usually above the £450 mark. They were warned about this con earlier this year, when it was discovered that Dixon's only sold ONE at the offer price.

The QVC one comes with the extra bits too when they do it as a "Today's Special Value" (TSV)
