Hi,
We always carry 2 in hand luggage for my son and have never had a problem. I do carry a doctor's note but have never needed to show it. In fact it has never been picked up on the x ray. The only place it has ever been questioned was once in Turkey.

As Starry says. We took a kid on a school trip to the USA and he had to get a doctors note that had to be available if asked. He wasn't asked but you never know.
