No personal experience of that hotel, but have stayed in Puerto Soller for 2 weeks.
The Es Port hotel sits up a side street about 500 yds from the seafront. I quote from the Rough Guide to Mallorca... "...boasts lovely gardens, a swimming pool and a charming reception area inside a renovated manor house. The guest rooms are, however, far less endearing, occupying a sprawling modern extension".
As to the resort itself, it is fairly small and surrounds a lovely bay which is supposed to be one of the most photographed sites in the whole island. The resort is very busy during the day, with day trippers, but (in May) very quiet at night. I could say you could hear a pin drop, but if you dropped a pin someone would call the police and report a disturbance.
There are two small beaches, the one in front of the harbour is ugly and slightly polluted with oil from the ships. The other, to the south end, is at least clean but not a lot more attractive. There is not a large variety of restaurants and those we used we found to be more expensive, and not as good quality, than many other parts of the island.
The resort is very popular with hill-walkers as the area is surrounded by mountains. There is a tram service runs up to the town of Soller, from where you can get the tourist train to Palma.
We enjoyed our stay, but not being greatly interested in hill-walking we would not return for a holiday. Lovely place for a day trip or for passing thru on the way to the train for Palma.

Thanks for that. We are aware that the guest rooms are in a new annexe. But then you hopefully don't spend too much time in your room. We are not really beach people anyway so the fact the beach is not up to much does not worry us. We have a car for the whole week anyway so can get out and about. We love mountainous scenery so that should suit us. We have stayed over in Cala Bona the last couple of times so it will be nice to be over on the west coast for a change. Going to Cala D'or in October!!

We have booked half board as all the reviews say that the food in the hotel is really good and at only 14 euros more per person per night for half board it seems worth it. Having lovely gardens is a bonus.

We have been to lots of places that the Rough Guides did not rate too highly and found no problems. Each to their own I say. I do tend to go on the reviews of us 'normal human beings' when booking a holiday.

The Hotel Es Port is very popular with German Hikers and for that matter English Hikers. We usally call in to the hotel for a drink and will be doing so next week. The hotel is quite spread out and has very nice gardens, terraces and pools, the accomodation is in various buildings and from the rear of the Hotel Eden where we stay the rooms in the main block look quite close together. Port De Soller is a great venue for walking and exploring the north of the island and although is not ideal for a beach holiday it is quiet and in no way brash, the only disco is on a Friday and Saturday night. Soller is very accessible by tram and Fornalutx and Binaraix are lovely villages well wort a visit. If you intend walking then get a copy of "Walk Mallorca" North and Mountains by Charles Davis from http://www.walking.demon.co.uk the complete guide.

Just a Port De Soller update, a lot of construction taking place in the port and I am reliably informed it will be going on all summer. The Tram fare has gone up by 50% now 3 euros and the train fare from Palma 14.50 instead of 11 euros

Thanks for that (I think)!!

We were originally going to Sa Coma but decided to change to Port De Soller because of building work going on near the hotel in Sa Coma!! Can't win can you.

Whilst we were in Cala Bona a couple of weeks back we were told by the receptionist that all building work has to cease by May so perhaps we might be lucky. Anyway the hotel looks lovely and we will have a car so can get out into the countryside.

Tram fare doesn't seem too bad - a novelty anyway.
