I'm staying with friends just outside Koskinou village.If the weather is as nice then as it is at the moment over there I guess I'll get roped into some gardening.It'll be a great break after Christmas and I really am looking forward to it. Some tavernas will be open then so we shall have a few meals out but mainly just chill out.

I would love to visit Rhodes out of season just to experience the other side of life away from the Tourists. Are you going by Charter or Scheduled flight?

We have a friend in Koskinou called George (Yorgo) Dedes. He has a swedish partner. He works in Socrates Garden in Rhodes Old Town in summer - don't know if you know him??

Hope that when you return you will let us know what the weather was like etc.

Hi. I'm going schedule with Olympic Airways.Rhodosfan, I know Socrates Garden, will ask my friends if they know Giorgos.They have a bar in Orfanidou St. (Bar St.) and are frantically busy in summer so they never get out to any other bars. Though I often stay with them then it's so different in winter when we have time to do whatever takes our fancy and their siesta isn't needed.Will report on the weather on my return. Thanks for the reply.
We have known 'Giorgos' since about 1995. At the time he worked in the 'Summer Queen' bar in Rhodes New Town (Now called 2004 bar I believe - don't know if you know this bar but it is located near to the pedestrianised area near to a Chinese Restaurant - China Town .... ?? just up the road from the Athena Hotel, on the cross-roads). After that he worked for a couple of years in the 'Roloi' ('Clock') restaurant in the old town near to the clock tower. He has a 2 year old daughter called Isobelle.
How much of Rhodes Town will be open during your holiday?
Look forward to you reporting back. Would be interested to know what you get up to etc. etc., what the weathers like etc.

PS Another lovely greek chap is the owner of 'Loot Restaurant' - (situated on the Rhodes-Ixia Rhodes near to Blue Sky Hotel) Yannis. He has his own small vinyard somewhere in the mountains on the island and takes great pleasure and pride in serving it with your meal. The last time we tried it, it was gorgeous. The food there is lovely too.

The tourist shops will almost all be closed. Socrates St. is usually totally empty of people.Some tavernas and cafeneions will be open as they usually work more with Greek people than tourists.We go for a drive most afternoons and usually have a coffee and a brandy at Appollonia, Archipoli or Psinthos.Alovely relaxing break. I remember my wildest nights being out of the main season but i was only 22 last time i spent a winter in Rhodes so that may well be part of the reason!

I had a lovely holiday thankyou. For the first week the weather was in the 20s and the second week was pleasantly warm but they really needed some rain.We were very laid back, the January sales started while I was there so did a bit of serious shopping one evening!Had a spin in the car most afternoons, calling for a coffee/drink up in the hills or in the Town. Seems a distant memory now, looking forward to my next trip in May. Anne
