Can anyone tell me if any operators other than First Choice offer a trip to Luxor - Valley of the Kings etc? As we will be arriving and leaving on a Monday, we are unable to take this one up.

Tour operators like Longwood do.
Whether they would take a passenger from a rival firm I don't know, but you could call them. I doubt they would turn away your money :)

Alternative is to find a local outfit in Sharm that do day trips. For example Soliman travel may be able to help. Thewre will be others when you get there.

If you do end up booking a trip to Luxor, or indeed, any excursion with a local operator in Sharm, please do make sure that they have the necessary insurance cover. First Choice, Longwoods and Soliman Travel who have already been mentioned are, of course, reputable companies with the licences and insurance needed. Even a "fun" evening out on the quad bike rides can turn into an expensive nightmare if someone ends up in hospital with a broken leg or worse!

Try booking flights through http://www.egyptair.com and look for a private guide. Thats what we have done. Got the flights really cheap. Booked the guide from http://www.egyptlife.com and have arranged the exact tour we wanted to do.

I'd like to recommend the Sunset Cruise offered by First Choice/Eclipse.

We've just returned from the cruise, what a get trip! Highlight was without a doubt seeing dolphins along side the boat out at sea, leaping out of the water. Fantastic!

The three course meal was delicious and well presented. Drinks not included in the excursion price but reasonably priced. Excursion price 35 pounds sterling (can't find the pound sign!).

Picked up from the Conrad at 5pm, arrived back at hotel at 22.15.

Bought a copy of the disc containing all the photos the photographer on board (Karen who works for Aquarius Dive Club, great pics) took.

We also took many pics of our own including some stunning pics of the sunset.

Well worth the price we thought.

Thanks Pippy

Kind of wanted more of a day trip on a boat as opposed to the evening sunset... however, if we can persuade one of the other family members (Auntie, Uncle or Grandma) to look after the little one evening would be a romantic trip out for hubby and me... will bear it in mind. :D
