The house reef features the ubiquitous anthyias, grouper, a few octopus (or perhaps octopi), peppered moray, soapfish, frogfish, lionfish, anemonefish, sailfin tang, parrot fish etc etc. It's a bit deep for snorkeling, but we saw a wonderful feathertail stingray resting on top one day. There is a small reef garden away left of the jetty, in no more than 4m and with loads of different types of fish including most of those you find on the main reef - even some surprisingly large moray. In more open water there are a few barracuda, red sea bannerfish, fusiliers, mullet, bream, cornet fish. The little pier hosts lions, damsels, bream and snappers. The bit of rocky stuff right by the beach has a resident blue trigger, a few puffers, three species of lionfish, cleaner wrasse, tiny juvenile boxfish and small peppered and snowflake morays. Walk offthe hotel to the left (north) and over the sandy bottom there are sand divers and razor wrasse (I also saw a whiptail stingray here) further there is a nice reef bay with pipfish, broomtail wrasse, masked and lined angelfish...
Funniest thing was when a shark sucker turned up off the beach and tried to hitch a ride off the swimmers.
How much time do you have for snorkelling?
Oh, and I forgot the cuttlefish and dolphins (if you are lucky and there are some squid around to attract them).
No plans for anything yet, just taking it as it comes... As for time in the water, as much as I can get away with before the missus gets too upset... I'm trying to get her to join me... Now I know there's boxfish in the area I am more likey to suceed... She loves boxfish
Hi everyone,i,ve been sitting reading all the comments and heartfelt concern for all the people affected by the taba bombings.i was staying at the taba hilton on the night the bomb went off thursday 7th oct at exactly 9:54pm we had only been there since the 4th.yes it was horrific and i ended up in hospital over the border in eilat. I went with my husband and 2 children.i had read the warning on the israeli website and phoned our f/office who as good as said i was worrying about nothing!!! They're c**p. They wouldn't even contact the israeli tourist board etc.we're all home and safe now,but please may i just say,as crazy as it may sound...i would go back to the taba hilton in a heartbeat,it was so beautiful and the egyptian people are wonderful and so caring so do go and don't let these awful events put you off. As soon as we can we will be going back
I live in Northampton too! My partner was telling me about someone who worked on the ward (he works in theatres) who was staying in the taba hilton. I think it must be you!! what a small world. I hope you are well and recovered from such a horrible experience.
It does seem sad that you can't go on holiday these days without worrying about the place exploding.....
I smell troll, someone set up the BBQ!

Nothing to be scared about. These things can happen anywhere as has been proved. Dont be put off, we have been six times in last 4 years and we love it.
In fact I feel so relaxed and happy there that I'm going back for the sixth time next Friday!
