Extended holiday in UK... income tax question?

Hello!

I'm looking to travel through the UK and do odd jobs around while I'm there. I was wondering how income tax works when I work there? I've got everything sorted, VISA, travel plans etc, then this popped into my head and I'm totally stumped by it. How will I pay tax on the money I make? I've look through the income tax calculator but still not totally sure how it works, so was hoping someone who knows UK taxes could help me out?
