I can understand people wanting info on accommodation, but why do they need all the latest on eating an drinks etc. Have they never heard about exploring, finding out for themselves.
Surely most of the enjoyment from a holiday comes from discovering new things for your self. Getting to know new people, their customs and way of living.
We have made more friends by adopting this approach, going to Turkey (Marmaris) is now like going home or visiting family.
Forget about the commercialised areas, get in among the real people, and expand your own life by doing it.

Each to their own. It would be a strange old world if everyone was the same when they go on holiday. Some like the challenge in exploring the resorts and finding everything for themselves, then again many first time travellers aren't so confident and like to hear about where others went. I personally like a mixture of both. It can be good to get a recommendation for a restaurant or area to visit but equally over the years we have found so many great places just by wandering about.
