Hello everyone,
We go back to the island next week and are taking my 13 & 15 year old on their first trip (proper) abroad.
We want to take them to see the firework festival at Valletta waterfront on Friday or Saturday night and wondered where the best vantage point was.
We know it starts at 21.30 but how long does it last?
Also bus wise ....what time do they keep running to, dont want to be stranded.
Staying along tower road side of Sliema again so not far to go.
Want to cram so much in for them to see and experience.
Cheers for any help in advance,
Alan.
Hi alan, I suggest you book an organised tour from any of the tourist shops as they will bus you in and pick you up after the fireworks. The Valletta waterfront itself has a few bars and restaurants inc' Hard Rock Cafe' or you could go to upper Barrakka Gardens.
As we look up at the Valletta sky decorated with fireworks I will spare a thought for all back home.
Regards,
Alan.
Ive just found this link that may interest others following this thread.

Some details on bus times and events programme.
please tell me, is this a regular weekend firework display or just a one off event?
This is an annual event that happens within the grand harbor and coincides with the anniversary of Malta's entry into the European union on May 1st 2004 (it says in the book)
The boats housing the fireworks are moored off the Waterfront area.
Best place to view is without doubt the Barracca gardens despite the local tourist office telling us the gardens would be closed.
The display started at about 21.45 and goes through to about midnight......very flexible times.
Opening display by a foreign manufacturer of fireworks in time to music...very impressive! lasts about 10 minutes.
This follows a long wait whilst the next display is set up which consists of various Maltese factory demos of one firework each.
The Maltese display lasted about 10-15 minutes and each item although not as impressive seemed to anchor on who's could finish with the loudest bang
We didnt wait to see the final display which is again set to music.
The buses ran up until 2.00am as a special service........which was reflected in the cost of E1.16 as opposed to E0.47 from Valletta to St.Julians.Very worth it though, better than having to get taxi.
There is a small booklet 'The official entertainment guide - Events Malta' which lists practically everything going on in Malta by the Month (each booklet is one month) it is free and has maps and bus routes within.
Was it worth seeing....yes we thought so and so did an awful lot of Maltese people
