Its' Hm the King's 80th birtdhay on Dec 5th and the Thao government is spending Ta chunk of taxpayer money on a few nights of firework displays in the capital.
These are always well worth seeing, get to the top of a tall building and you'll have a great show. Especially on Dec 5th when they'll be numerous smaller displays.
The firework festival titled "Kreukfa Kongpathapi Sadudi Maharacha" will be held from December 4 to 8 at 9pm on.
For the first night of fireworks will be held on December 4 at the Royal Turf Club.
On December 5, magnificent firework displays would be held on Chao Phraya River's near the Rama 9 Bridge
Dec 6th more fireworks would light up the sky above the Royal Bangkok Sports Club on Henry Dunant Road
Then spectacular fireworks will be featured on December 7 at Mae Pim beachfront in Rayong
On December 8, the fireworks will be seen above Bangkok's Benchakiti Park and the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
And for anyone in Thailand in the next couple of days, Nov 24th is Loy Krathong, lots of fireworks on this night too all across Thailand and loads of traffic jams in Bangkok as everyone heads to the river, lakes & small reservoir of their choice. If you miss the chance let your kids launch rockets from their bare hands you can do it here.
Do you happen to know if there will be fireworks on New Years Eve?
Always loads of fireworks on New Year's Eve - both public displays and from the posh hotels. The riverfront hotels - Oriental, Peninsula, Sheraton etc all club together and have displays launched from barges in the middle of the river. If you don't want to spend 5000 baht++ per person on a meal by the river on NYE, just head to one of the small restaurants - such as Yok Yok on the west bank pay nearer 500 baht each for better food and the same view.
great tip! We are undecided as yet as to whether to make our way down to the river or stay nearer our hotel( Landmark) as we are wondering about transport problems that night?
Only problem is if there's another bombing and the city centre gets shut down - as on NYE last year. Then you'll be walking home. Wear comfortable shoes - not heels. :-)
its good to know the skytrain runs later on NYE. I have to admit that it has crossed our mind that perhaps we should stay clear of crowded places( where possible) at that time.
