Hey:
Only 21 sleeps left for me now!!!
I am working on the first aid kit at the moment, but it looks like I'm addicted to paracetamol! I have a wizdom tooth cutting through and am taking a lot of paracetamol at the moment, and am taking enough to get me through the 2 weeks! Is there a limit on how many we can take? If we get stopped, what should I say? We are going to the Dominican Republic, so I am guessing they won't have any I can buy there.
I know it's a daft question, and I am probably worrying about nothing!
Your post worries me a bit. Long-term paracetamol use can have serious side-effects (particularly to the liver). Have you seen a dentist? I am sure pain from cutting a wisdom tooth should not last for another 21 days and for the two weeks you are on holiday. Please, be careful! The sale of paracetamol is restricted for a very good reason.
Oh yes, I know. On some days, it's no problem, but others, it's agony, they seem to be taking ages to grow! They started when I was 17 (I'm 20 now!) I have spoken to my dentist (who warned me I'd have problems with them when I was about 12. I had to have an operation and 3 years of treatment to stop them from being impacted, so I knew it'd be a problem). Whenever I see my doctor/dentist, they just tell me to take painkillers, so they know about it. I'm on constant painkillers for a bad kneecap anyway, (co-dydromol) the doctor just tells me to take my painkillers and get on with it! But when my knee isn't that bad, I thought paracetamol would be less dangerous!
Have you tried rubbing on some kind of local anasthetic?
If you go to the following website, it will give you advise on what to pack in a firs aid kit:
Thanks Tippi, Kayley and Mark I'll have a look at that link!
Firstly, you can't take co-dydramol and paracetemol together because both contain paracetemol. You can take either/or 4-6 hourly, do not exceed 8 tabs per day. You should try brufen if not contraindicated (eg not if you have stomach ulcers, asthma) along with paracetemol (you can safely take 2 paracetemol and 400mg of brufen together). You can buy 200mg tabs of brufen over counter but the 400mg are prescription only. Sounds like you need a complete review of analgesia. What dose are your co-dydramol??
hi,just thought I'd recommend clove oil to relieve pain.I had my wisdom tooth taken out and it was very painfull but a few drops of this dabbed on cotton wool did the trick!
Joolz: I'm currently on low dose co-dydromol, (is it 200mg?) It's likely to get worse as I get older, so I'm trying not to get used to it, which is why, when the pain is bearable, I take paracetamol instead. I won't take them both at the same time.
Unfortunatly, I also have asthma, so can't have ibiprofen (or asprin, according to the asthma nurse) the doctor tried prescribing ibiprofen for my kneecap! That soon stopped when the asthma nurse left a snotty note on the doctor's computer!
I know I sound like a complete hyperchondriac, but I'd rather just take some tablets and get on with it!
Sorry about my post earlier. It was just that there was no indication that you were getting checked out by your dentist or GP . Glad to hear you are. I can imagine it's difficult to know what to do for the best when you have contraindications. As it is so near your holiday, I suppose you are best doing what you know works but it does sound as though you do need your medications checked out further when you come home. Hope the cloves help, it's definitely worth a try. With a bit of luck, the pain might hold off whilst you are away.
For the benefit of members reading in on this thread and wondering what the answer to the question was, I myself have not been able to find how much paracetamol you can take with your abroad.
Hi Dramaqueen, co-dydramol comes in 10/500, 20/500 or 30/500 - the smaller numbers being the amount of codeine and the 500mg being the paracetemol content, the smaller the number the weaker the codeine content. What strength are you on out of these?
Hey joolz:
Ask your GP to increase the dose or change to kapake if your knee and mouth still giving you gyp. Good luck!
Thanks Joolz I'll book an appointment asap... I think it's due for a review pretty soon.
I dramaqueen, found this thread from last year
hi,just thought I'd recommend clove oil to relieve pain
I used to hate this stuff when I was younger but a couple of weeks ago I found a tube of clove oil gel in my local supermarket. Very effective.
Legally, it is no more than two boxes ( exactly what your allowed to purchase in one go) but who's to know how much you have in your case ( unless you get searched).
It is easy to purchase abroad too.
Hi everyone; (joolz, that thread looks really useful!) I'll get a doctor's note, just in case I do get searched! But I doubt they'll bother!
