Hi everyone
hopefully this will be my first post of many on here
In May i'm going abroad for the first time in 12 years. To say i'm rusty and not up to date on travelling abroad is an understatement.
What do people use for currency now? it was travellers cheques in my day, is it still ?
If anyone knows the best place in Punta Prima Menorca to cash in cheques etc that would be a massive help too
cheers
Tucker
you do not say when you are planning to go and some countries have specific requirements, but in general terms if yo go to the index page of this forum and look at the post above yours you will find topics on.. insurance,EHIC cards,Passports, travel money,& finding an atm abroad page 1 of each thread contains links to sites recommended bu ht members, and in the flights/airline/airports forum you will find information on all main airlines that operate from the uk, baggage and check in information and a thread on API which is being rolled out across the world [in stages]

There is so much information on this site it's amazing.
I'm going to Prima Sud Apartments, Punta Prima, Menorca 26th May for 10 days
Any infomation and tips both good or bad on country, resort, or apartment from members would be appreciated.
Welcome TUCKER ... for info and advice about the apartments, resort and island, you would be best visiting our Menorca forum ...
lot of information there
To be honest travellers cheques are a bit past it. These days your credit card is taken in most countries and your debit card can be used to get money from your bank account in most countries as well.
Get a travel money card from your local travel agent or post office , there safer than useing your debit/credit card abroad and you dont get the charges either! They work the same way as chip and pin but you get the same protection as you would from travllers cheques.

If you are using your debit card/credit card abroad I would notify your bank before you travel otherwise they may stop the transaction as it may be deemed unusual activity. Give your bank a call or check online if you have that facility and let them know the dates that you are travelling.
Also have a look in holiday tools at the top of the page, a reminder on packing which you may find to be useful
Have a good holiday.x
We prefer to use a mixture of small amount of foreign currency (in your case Euros), which we keep in the safe and our debit card. ATM's are readily available to withdraw cash but be aware that most banks will charge for transactions. Hope you have a great holiday.
