Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Goa this year with a group of friends, 12 in all. We are going 3rd to 19 May. I appreciate this is outside the holiday season but threee of us are celebrating our birthdays!
This will be our first time in Goa so any advice would be gratefully received. I'd particularly like some advice on how to get the best value on flights and accommodation.
Should we look for a package deal or book the flight and accommodation separately? Should we consider hiring villas? Who should we book through to get the best deals?
cheers,
Mally
I could be wrong but during the month of May all the charter flights to Goa will no longer be running, you may need to fly to Mumbai then down to Goa from there, someone will probably correct me though
we do have a few members who went over in the monsoon season. I think you will have to go via Mumbai but I might be wrong!
As The above posts state the charter flights from the Uk usually stop at the end of April so you will have to book a schedule flight. Lots of airlines fly into Mumbai so you shouldn't have a problem getting here. Also worth thinking about is the Air Lanka route from London to Goa via Colombo. I would book accomodation as soon as possible beacuse in Goa they are not very good at replying to e-mails (Fiona knows all about this)!!! Try looking on the owners direct website for private apartment rentals - you should get some decent deals as it's out of season!!!

don't I just Start emailing now Mally and someone must just reply to your email before May!
When you get to Goa there will be an abundance of accomodation, you can probably do a killing if you sort your accomodation out here as you should be able to get a two bed appartment for 1 month for 6000 - 8000 Rs/- (less than £100) (that can sleep 4 or possibly more). There will be lots available as most tourists will have gone!
Hope that helps
Thanks very much for your advice I did wonder about booking the flight only and then sorting out accommodation when we get there. Might suggest that to my friends!
I went in Monsoon (September) for the first time last year. I really enjoyed the different feel of the place. There were still quite a few tourists about, in fact I was quite suprised how many there were.
One drawback is the fact that all the shacks close down at the end of April so there are no sunbeds on the beach or places to get drinks and food (certainly not in the Candolim area anyway), somebody else will know more about the other areas. Nice walks on the beach though and no sellers to pester you
Nightlife still goes on, although on a much smaller scale....on the whole I am sure you will all love it
regards
Michelle
