We are thinking of going to the Algarve for the first time in Sept but don't know where to start. We're both early 60's so don't want disco's but love eating out in local restuarants (not egg and chips) and don't want to hire a car. We would like a frontline apartment with amenities close by such as shops, restuarants and buses etc to get out and about. We were thinking of the old town in Albufeira. Would be really grateful for any info.

Hi Cathrine
we are both 60something and we love albufeira.stayed at the solemar last sept, its right on the beach and as close as can be to the old town which is a lovely place to stroll around day or night.
You can choose B,B or half board. We booked independantly with wintersunshineholidays and flights with monarch, works out a lot cheaper than package

Thanks Jeanie , but we are looking for an apartment rather than a hotel, good to know that you like the area though.

We are in our 60s and we stay in Praia do Vau which is between Alvor and Praia do Rocha,There are two lots of apartments there right by the sea one is the Jardim do Vau which you can book direct or through Algarve Select. The other is Coral do Vau which you can book through Style holidays or Booking.com.If you like to stay somewhere quiet but within easy reach of busier places then I can recommend them. There are a couple of nice restaurants in Vau itself but also easy to get a taxi (cheap)
and go into Alvor or Rocha
