Hi Kevin,

Welcome to the board!

Kath's hotel review link above is for Helios Spa, Golden Sands, rather than Sunny Beach. Do you mean RIU Helios (also known as Helios Palace?), which is the only 'Helios' brought up by searching the Sunny Beach 3D map, if so, there are reviews HERE. Even searching for 'Ñ!елиос парк слънчев бряг' (Helios Park Sunny Beach) on Google Bulgaria only brings up references to 'Хотел Хелиос Парк Златни Пясъци' (Hotel Helios Park Golden Sands).

Sunny Beach is a bit like Golden Sands after taking lots & lots of steroids - very big and brash in comparison. It's a much less 'hilly' resort than GS.

You will find similar excursions to those that were available in GS when you were there.

HI Kath,

The plethora of similar names, rapid seasonal name changes & developments and, in some cases, multiple names for the same hotel in Bulgaria can be pretty confusing at the best of times.

Hi there....We have just returned from our third visit to GS. For our first visit in 2005 we stayed at the 4* Helios Spa and Resort Hotel which is directly attached to the Helios Park, slightly further up some steps...or via the lift. This is an excellent location as it borders PartyStreet but is far enough away not to have any real noise probs. You'll find if you walk directly down to the beach from the Shipka Hotel to The Bonita Hotel/Gerana Restuarant corner then turn left along to The Admiral Hotel then turn left at the Gibraltar restaurant and back up the slope to The Shipka again you'll get a great triangular 'exercise walk' and touristy-stall trek all rolled into one.

Bear in mind too that The Promenade dont stop at The Admiral, just continue along past it (bank and secure atm is just 30 mtrs away) and you'll find another lovely walk with some more bars/restaurants etc etc even some higher quality shops/boutiques too.

If you want a list of excursions on offer from GS see my post further down for a decent selection on offer from the Balkan Holiday reps for this year.

have a great time, regards, jim

Hi Kevin,

Glad to see that you've edited the resorts the right way around - you would have had everyone scratching their heads looking for a non-existent hotel... ;)

You will also be a cheap bus ride from Varna, if you want a break from the beach - you'll find more 'normal' Bulgarian prices and a wider variety of shopping opportunities for the ladies there too.
