We have got our first trip to Tunisia booked at the end of the month and we are staying at Hotel Nesrine.
We have been browsing through the forums and found a map which shows the hotel too. Has anyone stayed there before and got any feedback on it?
Searching on the net it seems that there are a couple of german reviews but we have been unable to find any english reviews.
really looking forward to it.
I know the currency has been covered alot on here. From what I understand it is best to take some sterling to the airport and withdraw money from the ATM on arrival.
How much would we need per day as a rough estimate? we are staying half board so its only really lunch. Which brings me onto the next question. are there plenty of cafe's around hammamet? or can we use the markets easily?
Are there any particular places that are worth a visit? And my girlfriend wants to go on a camel ride?
Thanks
On arrival we were given a cocktail before being shown to our rooms. Our room looked clean on arrival, however they didn't seem to change the sheets but just make the bed up and the standard of cleaning wasnt great. They just moped floor and made things look tidy. The toilet, bath & sink needed cleaning properly rather than just be washed round. The hotel caters mainly for German & French so if you go we would recommend knowing some German/French or going as a group since we found the language a big barrier. The meal times are a buffet style affair with a BBQ most evenings, the food had a heavy German/French influence but there were some local dishes. Since we stayed half board we had a bit more choice. The Pool was always busy but kept clean and tidy. The entertainers worked hard, however most of it was done in german/french which made participation more difficult for us. The beach is a 5min walk from the hotel, If you have young teenage girls the staff & lookie lookie men on the beach tend to take a bit too much of an interest, we saw this with some of the waiters at the hotel also. Hammamet is a nice day out and the beach there can be alot calmer since it is in the Bay, but it really depends on the wind direction. The hotel is well catered for activities with archery, tennis, water polo, scooter hire etc. Overall it was a good holiday and the hotel has some very nice touches but we felt a little isolated with the language barrier of the other guests.
Dont get money out before you go since it a closed currency, take some cash to exchange at the airport and withdraw any extra from ATM in the centre of Hammamet which is about 4-5TD in a taxi each way. Or the Noddy Train which was 2.5TD Also when shopping for souveneirs avoid the hotel shops since these were alot more expensive than shops on the street and dont forget to barter the price down starting at about 1/2 of what you are willing to pay.
