The Maharashtra place is very good but is more blue water orientated as I understand it and a long journey. It involves at least 1 night stay.
If you want to fish locally you can do so off of Coco Beach (trolling) amongst other places. A guy named Blackie usually takes me and he can be found on Coco Beach, although I know Sanjay (from Ice & Spice Restauarant, Candolim) is also starting fishing trips this season - or more correctly is now geared up to do it properly. We've had Barramundi, Snappers, Grouper, salmon, all sorts really.
The River estauray round to Fort Reiss is also good, near the light house. Think the very right hand end of Coco Beach as you look at the beach from the sea. We've had cats and rays out of there.
The far end of Vagator is also good, off of the rocks as is Ashvem by Rock Bites (coconut huts).
Baga river of course, and the Dorado lagoons, but you are only meant to fish them if you're staying there (the lagoons, anyone can fish the river). Doesn;t stop the locals going in after the prawns at night though.
To be honest, pretty much any outcrop of rocks for the hour before and the hour after high tide are good fishing.
If your bro is into carp then he'll probably be after Mahseer. Sorry to disappoint but there are no big Mahseer in Goa. Himalayas or Kerala only.
We usualy fish a running lead unless we're trolling.
There is a good tackle shop in Panjim, next to the Levi's store (that will be enough to get you there) but you need to know what you are after really.
P.S. the cats are little, nothinG like the big cats you get in Europe
Is there anyone on the forum who does any fishing while they are in Goa. We are back at the Marinha Dorada 3 Feb. I usually fish in the 2 lakes and the Baga river ( next to the hotel) i have also fished at Morjim beach, is there anyone who has done any fishing anywhere else and if so was it any good....
hi, you say you have fished at morjim, have you been out in a boat from there? if you fish from the beach you will only catch small fish usually catfish best at high tide, you may know this.i go out with a local fisherman about 3 30 in the afternoon we fish near to the harbour and fisherboats at charpora if you are lucky the fisherman will be cleaning all the scraps of fish off there boats and of coures this attracts fish to the area, the catfish are a lot bigger here, in april i caught a big ray here.i have been told that the fishing near the bridge at siolim can be good.i also fish on the river near to were we stay the fish here have been small up to now but i am working on it.the river runs past the village were we stay and i am the only person who ever fishis there.if you want to fish by boat send me a pm and i will give you the mobile of my boatman friend anuman.
We fished in a boat out of Dona Paula Jetty near Panjim run by a guy called Tony. All gear was provided and we generally fished around the entrance to the river Mandovi and around Grande Island and Buffalo Rock. The fishing was excellent....many types of Snapper up to 16lbs and Threadfin Salmon to 35lbs and an average catch was probably 6 or 7 fish per trip between the four of us.
Those of you that meet up at Lazydays, ask Adulph about the size of fish which we brought back!
If anyone requires Tony's contact details or more info on the fishing please PM me.
I have PM'd you !
I have pm ed you as well.

have been reading the Goa forum practically every day for the last year since booking our 3 week holiday in March and would firstly like to say thanks to all for the amazing advice and info and the hours of excellent reading.
Now I'm hoping some of you can help with a little advice on taking my fishing tackle to Goa. Basically we are taking our telescopic rods so no problem there as they fit in our cases but am unsure as to what I am supposed to to with my "sharps" ie, my hooks and I also have a small knife. I phoned Thomson today regarding this and the guy just seemed very vague as to whether I should pack them in my case or pack them separately in a tackle box/bag and check it in as another piece of hold luggage. Hoping that someone will be able to advise from previous experience.
Thanks in advance
Scruffyish
Been doing Goa for many years all my fishing tackle goes in my case and rods in hard tube never had any problems at all with customs or baggage.
Tight lines
David
My OH takes his telescopics and tackle in the main luggage that you check in and it goes in the plane hold. You could take your rods on as hand luggage, but the tackle is a definite no no, as this has too many items that could be viewed as a weapon. Anyway if you're like Tony, his rapalas are too precious and get firmly put away under lock and key!!

If pushing barbed hooks through fish's heads is your thing - OK - but don't do it where people are bathing and swimming. There are plenty of quieter beaches around.
One guy persisted in loudly dismembering fish in front of people trying to read, chill or whatever. Not good!
thanks for your helpful replies, I kind of suspected that we should just pack them in our cases but the uncertainty of the Thomson advisor threw me a bit.
I also phoned British Airways later on as we are flying from Aberdeen down to Gatwick to get our flights and they told me just to pack my stuff in my case so it confirms what you have advised, thanks I appreciate your help.
Hi Roma, no worries from me I'm not into beach casting and I wouldn't dream of doing any fishing on a tourist beach, saw loads of guys doing it when we were out in Gambia and can only agree with you that their choice of location wasn't appropriate, as for using barbed hooks it's not something I do as personally I prefer barbless so that I can catch and release.
Thanks again for your help folks, it's much appreciated.

yep i take a tele rod and a light fixed spool reel, i also take all my tackle(fishing that is) because it is very difficult to get out there. and that includes hooks.
pack it in your "hold" luggage and it won't be a problem.
not so sure about the knife though. i think it best to buy one out there and throw or give it away before you leave, it'll cost next to nothing.
have a good holiday BOB
