No tourist fishing allowed in the Egyptian Red Sea.

I don't think that is actually true.

Fishing is not permitted off the coral reefs or beaches with coral reefs. Not so much to protect the fish but to protect the coral.

However sport fishing is quite popular in Egypt and there are even annual fishing contests in the summer months, more in Hurghada that Sharm. The sport fishing association offices are only 25 mins walk from my home in Cairo and their base in Sharm and Hurghada is usually at the Marine Sports Club in those towns.

This trip will perfectly appeal to sea lovers. Guests can enjoy the serenity of nature, fishing and sunbathing, all at the same time".

The whole area is protected - no fishing.
Besides, you'd be too likely to catch one of the 15 stone whales that swim around making a load of bubbles.

Hi Paddy,

Greetings from another fisherman! As Alan says, shore fishing in Sharm is not really the done thing and not allowed in the majority of places where you can access the sea. I would imagine the scenario of you or I sitting peacefully waiting for a bite and then hauling in a 3or4 pound parrot fish, only to find our self surrounded by a lynch mob of angry snorkellers/divers! Believe me, once you have snorkelled in the Red Sea and seen the wonders that it holds within its coral reefs, you will not want to be fishing over them!

Having said that, it is possible in Sharm, to be taken out "deep water" fishing by some of the local fishing boats, quite often on a night trip. These trips can only be arranged when you are in Sharm by approaching somebody whom you identify as possibly being able to help you.

In closing, I would say that I have fished in a lot of countries around this world we live on, but after my first visit to the Red Sea, I was a far happier watcher rather than catcher, whilst in Egypt!

Regards,

Roger.

We are going to The Hilton Sharks Bay 1st December, both my other half and brother-in-law are keen fisherman. Was wondering if anyone could give me any advise about fishing trips as we know they won't just be able to go off and fish due to regulations etc.

Any info would be greatfully received.

Hi
Am I in a time warp? is it really 1st April?

Hi Kelly, are you going to follow us around  we are thinking of going to Sharm around Sept Oct time, the Tropicana Rosetta at Namma bay has been recommended to us as its not to far away from things, but as Annie wants to see the pyramids and the Cairo museum it may be worth our while to spend our week in Cairo as the museum sounds like a full day, lots of variables to sort out.
Love to you and Paul

Hey Al,

Great to see you! Paul and I got married last week - so our trip to Sharm will be a belated honeymoon next may!

Ive been to Egypt before, a 3 week tour around the whole country, visiting Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and the red sea. A week in Cairo is a long time, i think you would be better off staying in Sharm and taking a flight over to Cairo on a day/overnight trip, or go for 2 weeks and do a week in Cairo then a week in Sharm to get over it!! hehe

Hope you and Ann are well
