have finally convinced hub to go away, i spotted the coastline of flamborough cos me boys love fossil hunting and rock pools,,,,,,, so in march i found a cottage there, No,7 dog and duck square,,, its still free,,, and having a dog and looking on dog friendly beach sites, it seems the only place not miles away that we can take the dog on, and let him go have fun with the boys,,,
now my questions are, apart from beaches ( which hubby bores of, unless we are in spain where there are a "few more things to see!") he likes forest and walks, ,,,,is there enough in the area for us to see, do, ive looked at scarborough and bridlington,,, seem good, no dogs on beachs there,
gosh ive got all this goin round me head now..
tell me what its like, it look remote from other places?
hilda have a look at cayton bay you can take the dogs on the beach there and there is a couple of caravan sites nearby if you want to stay on them.p.s....when the tides out or going out there are plenty of rock pools.............cayton bay is half way between scarborough and filey.........
but i just wana the seaside, and to be able to go inland in foresty areas.........see some countryside,,,,,were spoiled last year, in scotland,,,,, had a cottage right in midlle of no were,,reaaaaaly scenic,,,,,
hoping this one is a good one,
looks to be on the street tho, ?
We stayed at Flamborough 3 weeks ago (we were actually camping at Thornwick Bay Leisure Park but it's only just down the road). Flamborough is a lovely village with a decent shop, fish shop, chinese takeaway and some decent pubs that do food, would recommend the Ship and the Royal Dog & Duck and you will be ok to take the kids in. There are some lovely walks around the area, a good one would be to the North Landing where you can get down on to the beach, it's a nice little bay just watch for the tides as they can come in quite quick. You can go and look round the Light House it has guided tours most days. Bridlington is just a 15 minute drive away, plenty to do for the boys. Another place you could go to is Filey Brigg really good for fossil hunting, if you like forests there is Dalby Forest only a short drive away, very scenic. Sowerby park is only about 10 minutes away and they have lovely gardens, pitch and put etc. so more for the kids to do. I would also recommend a day out in Whitby less than an hour from Flamborough, here you could go on a boat trip, look round the abbey and climb up the 199 steps to get to it. I'm sure you will have a wonderful holiday and if you need anymore info please feel free to ask.
Hope this helps - Debs
Flamborough is a quiet place and the sea is freezing but its one of my favourite spots. If hubby lokes walking there is plenty to do would recomend the clifftop walk or beach walk tide permitting into Bridlington (Brid handy if the weather is poor)
so re the beaches in flamborough, can you get onto any of the others, ?/ ive been o the good beach guide and they allow doggys , didint check accesibility tho,,,,,
come on debnpete, stump up some more,,,,, ps i wont be goin in pubs for food cos well have doggy with us,,,,,
Not much beach at Flamborough just a couple of coves and long stretches of rocky foreshore. Great beach at Filey and good beaches at Brid not sure re dog access but last time we were in Brid you could hardly move on the harbour bridge for all the dog crap Personally I would ban them from the town as well
so,,,,,,, enough to see for a week then>>??
hilda....you can take the dogs on cayton bay beach...........plus there are some very good walks around here...............and of course dalby forrest.........
thanks for that,,,, i think ill book the cottage now,,, before THAT week gets booked,,,,, just make sure about parking for hubs precious car,,,, then im away,,,,,,,, been reading about teh forest, sounds good,,,,,and theres whitby ,,,,id have preferred that area i think,,, more little villages?/ but hey, cant have it all can you?
cottage booked and paid for,,,, just hopin the weather changes a bit then, dont fancy spending a week looking at hubbys face,, grimacing cos there is only a telly and no sky!!!
Hi i live in brid, dogs are allowed on the beach but only in the less populated area, if you get the tides and weather perfect together you can enter the north beach with your dog below the coast guard station and walk along the beach to danes dyke, you'll find plenty of rock pools, but make sure you know the tides, its a good 2/3 hour gentle stroll.
i did everything i wanted, the kids have been in every rock pool on the east coast, and the dog has slept for 2 days solid, hope ive lost weight with all the climbing up and down beach paths!
