Hello wendy, its not the flies you have to worry about it the Hornets some of them are 3" long sorry just a joke, there are no more flies in Malta than at home, if you want flies you should go to Africa they have lots of the things.
Right thats it then booking the flights and hotel tomorrowI will have some sunshine May bank holiday
I wonder if it has changed much in 30 years?
Make sure you take a fly swat with you. They are not all over the place but mostly in cafe bars.
Hi, Wendy , If you dont make a fuss of the flies they will leave you alone eventually, unlike the mozies, now they are not fussy who they eat.
Thanks for all the replies. The hotel i WAS looking at The Coastline has some sort of rubbish tip behind it. So i suppose that would make the problem worse. All i need for 4 days is sunshine and a pool and i will be happy.
Hello again wendy, the Coastline indeed does have a tip at the side of it, but it has been closed for some time and is at the moment being covered with soil or earth and being set up with trees and landscaped. The old problem with the smell that used to go with hotel is no longer there. Most people and me as one who have stayed there speak highly of it great food, good pool, good entertainment day and night, one of the best on Matla for its night time entertainment, its only problem is its a little way away from St Pauls Bay but there is a hotel bus to take you to Bugibba and from here there is a bus station to get all over the island.
We stayed at Coastline in August and would definately say stay there!! Yes there is a tip nearby but you are not bothered by any smells go and enjoy! I am jealous!
Just came back yesterday (Sat 09/02/08) after yet another brill week staying at Coastline. No problem with smells at all in the hotel. The salt pans on the main road cause most stink but it never seems to reach the hotel! The only time we were ever plagued with flies was on a holiday in August 1983 and we were told the problem was caused by the winds coming from the direction of Africa!
Don't know if that's true but we've never really found them to be a problem ever since and we've been to Malta lot's of times since then. That's not saying that there aren't any flies but normally no more than anywhere else in the Med, so go and enjoy your break in lovely Malta and please let us all know how you get on?

Left it to late to book the coastline because of husband not getting his act together with leave. So leaving him at home to mind the cats. I have booked the Corinthia Palace for myself and two daughters. It looks nice all i need is some sunshine.
