Hiya, I am looking into going to Gumbet mid January 2009. I have done alot of searching online & cant seem to find anything out about hotels & flights.
I would like to fly from Bristol but have heard they do not do flights to Turkey in the winter, is this true? And if so does anyone know where I can fly from in the South West, also know of any self catering hotels which are open in January?
Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks.XX
Are you sure you wan to go to Gumbet in January? It will be like a ghost town then, maybe 1 or 2 bars and a restaurants but nothing else.... And the weather will not be good either, probably a lot of rain and very cold.
I used to live in Gumbet and I wouldn't recommend it as a holiday resort in thewinter.

Yes Im aware that the season ends in October, Im looking at going over to visit my boyfriend. Ive already been twice this yr so Ive had my holidays with the girls :o)
I cant see any direct flights that go there either, do they all stop off at Istanbul first? And also do u know if there will be any type of B&B or hotels open, its not a big problem if there not I can stay with my boyfriend just weighing up my options?
Thanks

I think there are some direct flights from Gatwick but when I used to travel in the winter I would fly to Izmir then get the bus down to Bodrum or you can change at Istanbul and fly to Bodrum.
I think there are some hotels open in the winter, I will try to find out which ones for you. My husband worked in Gumbet for 10 years before we moved to the UK and he still has friends there so I will get him to ask.

Hi Gumbetlove and welcome to HT!
Can I ask that you do not use phone style text, eg u instead of you as per our Rules of Posting?

Ok that would be great, thankyou for your help ill look forward to hearing from you.
Most of the direct flights during the winter are from Gatwick. You can go via Istanbul, try looking at the Turkish Airline site. Those would go from Heathrow. Last winter many of the direct flights from regional airports to Dalaman were cancelled but not sure about ones to Bodrum. They said it was due to low bookings. So really if you are making a booking from the regional airports you are running the risk that it may be cancelled.
Try Aegean flights also Thomas cook.
PS I just took a look at the companies I usually use and it's not looking good for January next year. Aegean flights only have departures from Manchester in January, none from Gatwick. I couldn't find anything on the Thomas Cook web site which is the one I used last year.
Flights via Istanbul with TA are showing at about £320 return during January.
