The local Gibraltar Chronicle is now running an advert looking for Cabin Crew fluent in both English and Spanish.

While the advert does not specify carrier this could be good news in respect of FlyGibraltar (at last)

However it still remains a secret as to when, what and from whom aircraft shall be/has been sourced.

It's now early Feb, and the website doesn't show any sign of selling any tickets. When you're a brand new airline, filling seats on a plane is hard enough when there's a long lead time between opening bookings the first flight. Beginning to think that a target of flying starting April 07 might end up slipping a bit, that there's gonna be some heavy discounting, or that the load factor in the first month of operations might be on the low side !

Latest info' is that June is the earliest start for FlyGib - however again, there is no information of aeroplane sourcing or how license application has been accepted or otherwise.

Details of the operation remain scetchy down here, and information will be provided as soon as received.

Any European airline can get a 95 % load factor in July and August, particularly one flying tourists to southern Spain. If not, its probably run by idiots !
Apart from the 2 weeks around Xmas + New Year, filling seats from November to late March without heavy discounting is very difficult.
The likes of Monarch have regular sales in winter - sales are pretty rare during August !

The difference between profit and loss (particularly for an airline flying tourists from cold Northern Europe to the sunny south), is whether it can get plenty of bums on seats in the shoulder season - e.g. May + June. February is a time when lots of families with kids in the UK are going to begin thinking about booking their summer hols - if you can't sell seats, you lose their custom.

If flygib can't get their planes flying until mid June, they lose a good slug of potential revenues on which a brand new airline will heavily rely. I very much hope that FlyGib is a success, but I have a feeling that purely on comercial grounds, it may be necessary for them to delay their start until spring 2008

Airline revenues/yields and pay loads are not driven by having full aircraft at heavily discounted prices. FlyGib while certainly will be hoping to generate significant numbers of tourist trade it will also be looking at the business end of the market. There are a lot of people who live and work in Gibraltar who have connections to the UK and Ireland. In similar fashion, a lot of business travel could be generated between Gibraltar and the UK - (the MoD is a prime example).

Little know Spanish carrier outside of Spain, Lagun Air using Embraer aircraft, have given a strong indication that they are considering operating from Salamanca and Valladolid to Gibraltar airport. It is unclear if they are also considering flying to GIB from Barcelona. Iberia or low cost carrier Click Air have indicated that Barcelona-Gibraltar could be a route opener during 2007.

Sorry to say, nothing of note at all around the bazaars on FlyGib. Looks like the many sceptics are potentially right on this one.

Even the MoD in Gibraltar - who own the airfield - appear to have no clue whatsoever on any start date.

I can only assume that the backers have not yet secured the required finance as I find it hard to believe that they have not been able to source 2 or 3 Boeing 737's from around the globe. License to operate certificates have not been issued.

British Airways (GB Airways) have now started their flights between Gibraltar and Madrid. Early evening departure from the rock and late evening return from the Spanish capital...(using it on Friday to see how it compares to Iberia). The aircraft night stops in Gibraltar and is used on a morning rotation (08.20) out of Gib to London Gatwick.

Plans for the new terminal at Gibraltar have been released. It looks very smart with dual access to Spain or Gibraltar. Future looks good - just needs someone to step in for FlyGib if that goes down the plug hole

Hi - is there any more flygib news - i have done one of my 'random' checks on their website for updated info and unless i'm having a dizzy moment the website address automatically directs you to gibe telecom or something??????

The FlyGibraltar situation is that they will not be operating. A numberof reasons have been given for this but generally they just did not have the finance required, could not source aircraft. Sorry, but I guess if you want to go down into the Campo region you should look at other alternatives. FlyGib is not going to happen - at least for a long time!

Hello can anyone please help me the best airline to get cheap flights to Gibraltar for next week,i am flying from gatwick there is 1 adult and 2 children. i am actually going to malaga but is it cheaper to fly into gibraltar as malaga isnt far from them?
