My husband flies twice each week and always uses Monarch. He is very rarely delayed and rates the service.
Personally, I fly the cheapest way as it is only just over 2 hours.
i have booked a flight from birmingham to faro in oct for £175 return
I usually use Manchester as I stay overnight at a hotel which has secure parking arrangements. Is there anything similar at Blackpool Airport? e.g. nearby hotel with secure car parks?
In my experience, no-frills flights are all much of a muchness. None have particularly good seat pitches and the flying experience is pretty average to be honest but they can save you a lot of money if you book at the right time. For a short flight of 3 hours or less I would just opt for the cheapest flight that flys from your favoured airport at the most convenient time. I paid £100 return each for us to fly from Bristol airport to Faro in July with Easyjet which is pretty reasonable.
tip: if you use them pay for privelidge boardind card on check in i think its £2 but you get on first and pick were you want to sit (because its free for all )

big difference to the final price.
Monarch, who we always used to prefer to fly with, have worked out cheaper, with a larger baggage allowance and better flying times!
So it's Monarch for us this year.
WE usually use Jet2 but the charges they have added here and there this year have really made a Monarch, who we always used to prefer to fly with, have worked out cheaper, with a larger baggage allowance and better flying times!
So it's Monarch for us this year.
Milly, We are in the same boat as you, always used Jet2 from Manchester for majority of flights but they have now gone really expensive with all the add-ons, so we have also booked Monarch for 3 flights which are cheaper. Did get a reasonable cheap flight with Jet2 for hubby 4 weeks ago for mid June at £75 return, the flight is now showing at £130 + optional add-ons. Cheers Jayjan
It's terrible the way Jet2 keep on changing their luggage allowance too isn't it?
A friend of mine booked a flight with them for June and when she booked, the allowance was 20kg.
It then went down to 18kg. It's now 17kg.
Milly x
Milly, just booked some more Monarch Flights for end of October £90 return each, but they have now put their check in baggage charge up from £3.98 to £5.99 per journey, debit/credit card charges remain the same and allowance is still 20kgs.(Hold) 10kgs Hand. I think Jet2 are killing it and will lose lots of regular customers. The 17kgs per person hold allowance is bad and it states that you can spread this allowance between no more than 5 bags, what daft person would do that, what a stupid rule.
And yet they'll be wondering why their profits will be down at the end of the financial year....
Jet2 stitched us up good style over excess luggage going out to Portugal last year Different story)
(We ended up leaving allsorts of stuff in the apartment last year so they couldn't do the same on the return journey.
Sod's law, we got to the airport and between 4 of us, we were 18kg underweight - another suitcase worth! )
I am sure those scales at Manchester were dodgy.
we don't go overboard with out luggage - never have.
(And the poor girl who was checking us in was a learner on her own, who by her own
admission wasn't sure what she was doing - so that didn't help...)
as this is turning into a general flight thread i will lock it please make further post in the airline forum
