I have just arrived back from palma airport and just thought I would let everybody know that globespan are charging for overweight cases that are underweight I weighed mine and my brothers cases and hand luggage in the hotel they weighed a total of 38kgs yet when I got to the airport this went up to 43.5kgs I removed 1 plastic bottle of vodka weight 1kg then it went down to to 40kgs OK after this I went to find the globesoan desk to complain after about 10 minutes I found it it is not under globespan but under a Spanish agent I was told it was not their problem but a problem with the airport manager by this time I had run out of time and my flight was ready for boarding on the flight everybody else were saying the same one couples cases weighed 40kgs going out and you've guessed 43.5 kgs going back not bad considering they had cosmetics and magazines going but none going home cost 28 euros I urge anybody else this has happened to write to globespan and complain as this is who the holiday is with I certainly will
This seems to be a common problem at Palma. We returned thru Palma in March with cases which were lighter than when we went out, yet weighed in at about 10% heavier than they did at Glasgow. Fortunately the Thomson rep told the desk clerk to let it go.
Either the weigh-in at Glasgow is registering 10+% under and Palma is accurate, or Glasgow is accurate and Palma is 10+% over. Either way Palma airport and the airlines are making money. I wonder what checks are in place to ensure that these airport scales are accurate, as they must be in supermarkets for example.

I agree scales are not calibrated my daughter is a Thomson rep she flew from Glasgow for a weeks break to Sharm El Sheik on 12th April and luggage was alleged to be over charged £18 as they added hand luggage.. On way back 1 week later, her case was weighed at 27Kg in Egypt but not charged excess. She had 5 hours at Glasgow before flying out to Majorca to return as a Rep and somehow without being opened the case now weighed 23Kg!! 
Having suffered before with Thomas Cook claiming my cases were overweight at Glasgow I was told that the scales are regularly calibrated but they would not provide me with dates etc. Just another way to rip us off.
