Football is played by semi professional teams all over Ibiza, the closest ground to Cala Llonga is the home of Pena Deportiva in Santa Eulalia. However football (as in the UK) is a winter sport and I am afraid that the season is over right now. Don't know when in August you are coming but towards the end of August (as in the UK) the season will be starting up again. Whenever the local side is playing, all the Spanish bars in Santa Eulalia will display posters advertising it a few days before each match. Alternatively, if you go to the massive and excellent Sports centre in Santa Eulalia (which is also Pena Deportiva's home ground) they should be able to supply you with a fixture list.

It is a great afternoon or evening out but the standards are pretty low even compared to UK fourth division standards, lots of high balls and missed crosses but it is still competitve and the crowds have a real sense of humour. It costs around €18 to get in but women and children enter for free. This is Spain after all and the attitude is that only grown men understand the sport.

As a postscript, this a great site if you want to know what happened last week. Not so good if you want to know what is happening next week.

like the racing results for instance? presumably that is why it calls itself a newspaper, because it reports on the news?

looking into the future the san antonio annual football comp happens next week with professional teams from britain involved. as for football in august my crystal ball doesn't stretch that far though i do predict that it will be boiling hot - far too hot for footy!

Thak you all for helping...we will be arriving Aug 10th for 2 weeks, so we might be out of luck, but wil keep my eyes open for posters !

In a stroke of coincidence I ended up chatting to the manager of Pena Deportivo tonight. He told me that the football season in Ibiza start on the 25th August and Pena Deportivo play their first match on the 28th. Sadly it looks like you will miss out by a couple of days.

Ahhh casperslides, thats a shame, but does that mean do you think that there may be some pre-season friendlies? or even training?
Reply
I guess training is possible, I doubt that there are any pre-season friendlies as all the footballers hold down full time jobs. Which is why matches are played on Sundays here.

Don't suppose you know if you can buy replica shirts of Deprtivo Santa Eulalia at the ground do you?

Our 4th visit to Sta. Eulalia comes next week, and we're going to catch the match against Arta, and I'd love to take a shirt home with me.

Can you help?!?!
