Tour Operators and Travel Agents

Flights are paid for at the time off booking so the flights should be ok. Accommodation is paid for at the time of check in and that is where the problem lies. Hopefully the CAA and ABTA are going to pay the hotel companies direct for the bookings as this would be easier than making all customer pay again and then make a claim to them.

Booked and fully paid for a 2 week holiday for 4 adults travelling in July to Titanic beach resort including flights and taxi transfer

I'm awaiting confirmation from Thomas Cook that the flights have been paid for and are still ok
I've contacted Youtravel.com regarding hotel booking. They still have the booking but would have to pay the £3683.23 to them, which is £300 more than the original agreement through Freedom Direct.
I will also have to pay again for the taxi transfer.

My query is and would appreciate advice from people who have had experience of this type of situation,
Am I better off putting in a claim to CAA for the full cost of the holiday and start looking again for a package holiday with another tour operator or keeping the flights paying again for the hotel and taxi
and make a claim for the extra payments.

attn:julie w.....whatever happens you'll have to pay again as the claim against Freedom will take probably

3/6 months to settle.if you flights are still valid then you can look at booking accm/tsfs or if you have no flts

then you could look at a package or doing the booking DIY...it will all depend on the status of your flts

if no flts then your back at the begining and the choice is yours

Sadly you will not be allowed to claim for the extra you will have to pay to book the hotel and transfers again. the CAA's responsibility only stretches to what you paid for the original booking.

I'm glad most people have kept their flights.

Can someone give me a bit of advice on this, we booked the hotel through FD and got our voucher from Low Cost beds as FD were acting as agents for LCB's so how do we stand. :que

Due to go out in 4 weeks with freedom direct and this is terrible news

Now I have booked with them and they have booked flights with Goldtrail for me and accomadation through another company. On the ATOL website it states that Freedom Direct Holidays was also a travel agent selling flights, accommodation and packages on behalf of airlines, tour operators and accommodation suppliers. These arrangements are not covered by Freedom Direct's ATOL

I assume that reading this I may not be covered under ATOL, so do I have any chance of getting my money back. What is ABTA, would that cover me

I paid by credit card woud this cover any chance of getting the money back

Agnet Q / brain_da_gent and to all others who can help on this Pls

hi, i am in same boat as Govan Jaggie and need some advice on CAA calim. :(

Kiss flights have confirmed our bookings and tickets are on way, However Med Hotels are not honouring the booking for accom & transfer. If we re book the accom & trnfr with MED and keep our flights, Will CAA refund the monies or I have to loose the flights and claim the whole holiday for a refund before I re book anything. I am due to travel on 19 May 09, so any urgent advices will be appereciated. :que

shahz_9--if you've got your flts thats a good start...accm/tsfs will almost certainly have to be booked again

and paid for again and then the monies you paid to Freedom for accm/tsfs will have to be claimed back

for example if you paid say £ 500 for accm/tsfs to Freedom and you now have to rebook the accm/tsfs

which will cost say £ 600 you will only be able to claim the £ 500...the CAA will not pay for any extra

costs.however if say the new accm/tsfs cost £ 400 your quids in. although your original accm/tsfs were with MED

you could now try any other company especially if someone were cheaper

Hi all.I have spent the last two days phoning round trying to get some answers regarding my holiday Yesterday i was told that Flythomascook would hounour our flights but i still had no idea if medhotels would honour our hotel booking.Today after another call to medhotels i have been told to forward my booking details, confirmation that my holiday has been paid in full and a bank statement showing my payments to Freedomdirect, i have also contacted ABTA (again) who today told me that they have advised Medhotels to honour bookings if the booking has the Abta sign on the paperwork.Fingers crossed cant be bothered booking again and the hassle of making a claim.

Here's my up date. Booked hotel with Low Cost Holidays (LCH) through Freedom Direct (FD).

LCH say I have to pay in full again, so checked with ABTA who say that LCH have to honour the booking under ''Agency Agreement'' so back to LCH who then tell me that they cancelled their contract with FD 2 days before they went under (Very handy that and don't believe it for one minute). Back to ABTA who tell me to make a complaint against FD to recover my money and make a complaint against LCH because they won't honour the booking. I have also to make a claim through my bank/Visa it's doing my napper in. The funny thing is if i had not seen it here I would not known a thing as I've not received anything from LCH or FD. :que :cry

Glad I saw this. I called Med who claim that as they are not ATOL protected we have lost the booking but reading the ABTA stuff could change that. My hol is fully paid with flights being honoured so another call to Med tomorrow. Added to that, as Med are part of Thomas Cook, should they not be on the same ATOL bond. Is ATOL not only flights?

Hi Guys! I contacted the ABTA today aswell and was told MED Hotels should honour the bookings, under the agency law and the contract with freedom direct. If they do not honour they will be in a Breach of the contact with ABTA. I will making a another phone call tommarow to MED Hotels and argue on this point. :yikes hoping we get sorted :(

Med Hotels are owned by Thomas Cook and they're an ABTA member so surely something can be done about it
