Quite true, and therefore applies to other resorts, as is the case with any selling or activity without a licence. Lucky-lucky (looky-looky) men are also totally illegal of course. In Alcudia, there are by-laws since last autumn which make it an offence to buy anything from street sellers (which includes beach sellers). There is a fine of 500 euros maximum for doing this. Another new by-law is to stop drinking alcohol in the street; this can also result in a fine.
People just need to know about this as we were telling them not to buy from the sellers when they came onto the beach, but that didnot stop the sellers they started to target young girls who didnot have adults with them.
Get out of it the fat woman has been doing the beach for 20 years shouting Melonee melonee melonee she is lovely lady and its her living give her a break buy a Cocanut from her

It is an offence to BUY from them, not worth the risk really, even if it how the old lady makes a living,
I too enjoy hearing the "melonee, Melonee" cry, but you can bet that a few fines will be dished out,
especially early season when people are not aware of the by-laws
Me i would say i am not buying any but hey look you dropped them Euros out you pocket just at the same time that fruit rolled out your barrow ..
please dont let the place get like the UK , lets all breathe and live a life right silly rules should be ignored ..
why you think i have a place in Mallorca , its safe and sensible and sunny
totally agree pete. Fining tourists for buying fruit on the beach?? Id be amazed if the Police would do that and be even more amazed that it has ever happened even once. The locals live on tourism and its part of the place.
I'd be amazed if they fined tourists as well. Poor PR if they did I think. The background to this was that local businesses made official complaints to the town hall about illegal selling, especially the luckies, while there has been a fair amount of trouble with street drinking at weekends near Menta disco, hence the clampdown on alcohol in the streets. The response from the town hall was the introduction of the by-laws, which they didn't really need. But enforcement, well that's another matter. Oh, and no worries about topless ladies. Strictly speaking you can be starkers on any beach, not that I'd recommend it.
OK let them sell to tourist but dont let them rip us off.
