from Side the best local shopping is Manavgat...but for cheap furniture try Yildiz mobilya in Konaklı..its about 40 kilometres on the Alanya road.
the most up market shops are istikbal, yataş bellona, etc...but very often you can get reasonable deals from small family firms who make their own furniture. it all depends on what sort of quality and price you are looking for.

thanks for your reply, went to Managvat and saw Polis, istikbal and Alfemo. All lovely. We are probably looking for middle range furniture. We will be coming out early Sept, booked into hotel for first couple of nights until we get beds in our apartment so want to know if any shops keep beds, furniture etc in stock to be delivered immediately. Also do you know of a good shop for white goods. Thanks v. much

the best shops for white goods are Bosch, Arcelik, Beko and others. They nearly all run special offers..and if you are buying 'pesin' (say it peshin)which means cash you can bargain for either something off the price or something extra with your purchase (like an electric cleaner etc)..sometimes both..shop around. These shops all have web sites and most have the site in turkish or english.
http://www.beko.com.tr is a good place to give you an idea of prices.
Shops like Bellona will deliver on time..can even be same day if you press for that...people here want your custom...Bellona is a bit cheaper than istikbal but same quality. yatas..(Yatash) is good for beds and bed linen
there is a big Metro store in Alanya where they sell cost price..used to be just for wholesale but they are now selling to ''yabancilar'' foreigners...its a nice day out from Side. Also as im sure you know there is a good market on a monday in manavgat where you can get all the bits and pieces you will need.

ould you also please advise which way to pay. Whilst in Turkey we were constantly asked how we were going to pay pound, T lir or Euro. When we go to buy furniture which currency do you think will give us the best deal?

Most of the shops like cash as they dont have to wait on the credit card clearance system, which here can take a long time. Does not matter if you pay Sterling or euro or Lira but bear in mind the shop will not give as good a rate as the banks do so if you go to the bank and change up enough dosh you will be better off.

Electrical goods we buy from a particular Bosch shop in Antalya both for me and my clients, and heres why he always gives his lowest price, he has the attitude that if you keep the prices low then people come back (this is rare amongst Turks). Yesterday we had to price a TV -Telefunken 110cm projection TV- Bosch shop in town 3400YTL , our regular man 2350 YTL So the moral is go to several white goods shop and ask for their bottm price and let them know that you are checking prices at all shops. Good luck with it.
